12:15 pm – 1780 Markham Road, Toronto, ON (Scarborough) I drove up to the take-out ordering panel and began asking for my order. The woman on the other end kept asking me to speak louder, because she couldn’t hear me. I repeated my order, and she still couldn’t hear. I had to scream the order for her to understand me. This went back and forth and least five times. After getting the order wrong twice, we finally were able to drive forward. We waited 3 minutes for the truck in front of us. It is now our turn to pay. We tapped the first time and the machine started beeping. We tapped two more times as instructed by the same customer service clerk. I heard one of the other clerks tell her that it seems to be their line that is acting up. We were finally asked to insert the card. Everything went fine until it was time to enter the PIN. At that point, the machine froze. We alerted the clerk, and she said, “your card is declined”. Declined? For what? We never put in the PIN. There was no chance to be declined. She asked, “Do you have any cash?” I reluctantly took out my last twenty, which was reserved for emergencies just like this. I handed her the twenty and she started clapping, saying, “Yeessss, cash! That’s much better! Cashhhhhhhh!”. She then instructed us to park in the customer parking area. In all my years of patronizing this location, I have NEVER been ask to do such a thing. Instead, we have had the privilege and pleasure of sitting either close to, or right at the service window. There were no cars behind us. Five minutes later, a clerk comes out with the food. This will go down in history as my fifth complaint in 3 years. Shame on me, right? I only limit my visits to this place when in a pinch. Unfortunately, it is I who continues to get "pinched" by this careless, sloppy, unprofessional, time-wasting, frustrating, headache-inducing...
Read moreI'm a regular at Harvey's and normally go to the location at Markham and Sheppard as it's near my place. Normally there's a black girl there at the counter and she's the sweetest girl ever but yesterday evening I went and there was this Asian lady. I don't know what her problem was with me. Maybe she is racist towards brown people or something and honestly I never play the colour or race card but damn was she rude.
So, I asked her if I could scan the coupon through the app, she said I'd have to order online and pick up so I just sat there, ordered through my harveys app and this is in front of her. I go to the counter again to get my food and she's like what's the number, and there's no other order there. So I tell her the 11 or 13 digit code and there's just one order and she says what's the name so I tell her the name and again there's no other order there and she goes, speak louder and just puts the bag on the counter mumbling something. I take it and I say like do you have a problem with me or something but she keeps mumbling so another guy, this nice Asian dude steps in and gives me the cups for the drinks.
I have my meal with my friend and when we're about to leave, I tell her that you don't say speak louder to your customers or anyone else, you say, could you repeat that sir, I mean you're working in hospitality damnit. And she makes this face and says in a very resrespecting way, I'll take care of it in the future... SIR like she's mocking me or something. WTH.
Well Harvey's you lost a customer there. I don't know what her problem is or if she's just racist but I sure not not going back to that location again for sure. She ruined my evening. Disgusting behavior. Who ever owns this franchise branch, get some training done to your staff or at least make sure, you don't have such people behind...

The first Harvey's location was opened on April 1, 1959, at the southeast corner of Yonge Street and Observatory Lane in Richmond Hill, Ontario, on a 10-acre (40,000 m2) parcel of land purchased from the owner of a bankrupt Dairy Queen. The location was initially expected to be seasonal, based on the precedent of the local Dairy Queen location, but it was successful enough to remain open year-round. The first franchised location was on the company owned property on Avenue Road. Subsequently, the land was purchased for additional locations to be developed and franchised in Etobicoke, Hamilton and Scarborough.
In 1959, Harvey's introduced three original concepts in the drive-in take-out business. The first concept was for a customer to order, purchase and obtain a receipt, which was placed on the topping counter. The cash was immediately placed in the cash register, thereby controlling and monitoring cash, and keeping theft to a minimum. The second concept was to have the customer move along the counter, following his/her receipt, and then, at his/her request, have an employee "customize" his/her hamburger with a variety of toppings. The third concept — developed for its full-line Swiss Chalet restaurants in Montreal — was to purchase potatoes from Prince Edward Island, have the franchisee wash and cut the fresh potatoes into oversized chips with skin on, and then deep-fry and serve the chips on-site. This approach was a distinction between thin pre-frozen and pre-cut French Fries of unknown origin that were being sold at the time. Ten years later, under different management, the number of toppings was substantially increased, and pre-frozen and pre-cut string French Fries were introduced, replacing the freshly...
