Heffy's Fried Chicken — Restaurant in Toronto

I was looking forwards to trying out this fried chicken joint soon, so when me and my friends went out for lunch, we stumbled across this place and decided to try some of their food. We were definitely not expecting this to be one of Scarborough’s hidden gems in terms of food.

I had Monday’s special, which I believe was the chicken sandwich. I ordered the meal combo with fries and a water, and it was one of the most scrumptious chicken sandwiches I’ve ever tried. The fries just boosted the flavour with the unique but amazing frying method, and they taste great, even without a dipping sauce. The chicken in the sandwich was decadent and tender, while the sauce bolstered the flavour. The lettuce was a good crunchy balancing act, and overall, it was mind-blowing.

The gentleman who served us was kind and friendly, and definitely sold us on coming again and buying more. The food didn’t take a long time to arrive— maybe ten minutes for us. We were on a time-crunch, so the fast timing was perfect for us. Overall, great service.

The atmosphere is a bit empty, but they only have a small space to work with, so it’s understandable. The table had a couple bits and pieces of food on it, so make sure to wipe it down even if they serve you with a tray. The graffiti, which originally belonged to the Pizza Pizza who moved next door, still looks great as a selling point to come in. Honestly, we’re so glad they never repainted that wall. We sat on the barstools, and the view was nice, but nothing exceptional. However, everything was very convenient since it was all in one place.

I ordered the Nashville hot chicken sandwich combo with fries and a Mountain Dew.

First thing I noticed walking in for the first time was how clean it is. The interior is comfortable, music is not too loud (or awkwardly quiet), and there is a seating area to eat or wait for your order. (Also I love the art on the walls it’s a nice touch)

THE SANDWICH

The chicken itself is juicy and fresh, but not overly greasy. I’ve seen other reviews complain the size is too small but for me the amount of chicken was perfect. My only wish is that the breading was crunchier. The sauce was not what I was expecting. Upon first bite it gives a sweet and tangy flavor more akin to BBQ sauce. However, after a few bites the spice really kicks in and it tastes more like what you’d expect from a Nashville hot sandwich. The slaw was a great addition and worked well with the sauce. It also tasted fresh and crunchy. pickles are a must on any chicken sandwich and I’m happy to say they did NOT skimp. Overall the sandwich was awesome and I was very satisfied. 8.5/10

THE FRIES

The fries were nice and warm, generously salted, and had an excellent potato flavor to them. As far as I can tell the fries are fresh. My one complaint is the exterior of the fry lacks a lot of crispness. Overall the fries were fresh, delicious and properly salted. 8/10 for me.

One last thing to note is I ordered a fountain soda and when the manager/owner realized it was watered down, he offered me a can instead. It’s little things like that that make a huge difference when it comes to customer service.

The price is pretty normal for chicken between chicken joy, mary browns etc, but i have to say this chicken is a step above the competition, Very crispy on the outside while remaining very juicy on the inside, which usually the chicken from other restaurants were pretty dry (i got the chicken tenders combo with fries), speaking of which their fries were pretty good too i really enjoyed them, Leftovers were pretty good too, the chicken didn't really dry out in the microwave either.

The owner is amazing, While we were waiting for our food he chatted with us about his background in the chicken business, Chatting about their sauces they use for the store etc. i could go on about service but i can definitely say it was very welcoming and engaging
