Read moreHimalayan Kitchen scales the summit, and takes momos to the heights. Located in Toronto's Little Tibet, this is the premier purveyor of momos in Parkdale. Coming off of Lansdowne on to Queen West, Himalayan Kitchen appeared like a tea house in the mountains, offering refreshment and respite for a weary traveller.
As an aspiring connoisseur of the fine art of the dumpling, I had to try both the Butter Chicken momos and the Jhol momos (I was very hungry). I selected the Butter Chicken momos with... chicken as a filling (made sense 🙂), and chose beef as the filling for the Jhol momos. These took about 15 minutes to prepare, and arrived beautifully simmered in their respective sauces. The Butter Chicken sauce was rich, robust and made its presence felt, in a very pleasing way. The Jhol sauce, by contrast, was thin, delicate and tactful - very different, but pleasing in its own right. The meat in both cases was cooked wonderfully, and the momo wrapping was thick enough without being overdone.
The decor showed strong accents of orange, one of the most pleasing of colours: warm and inviting.
The background soundtrack was groovy, chill Desi music, and the staff introduced me to the song "Naina" from the Bollywood film "Crew" (sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Badshah) - Love it, it's currently number 2 on my Desi playlist.
Also really cool were the shirts worn by the wait staff, with the slogan on the back: "I Followed My Heart & It Led Me To Momo". Yes it did, indeed.
The best compliment that could be given to Himalayan Kitchen, was that of an empty bowl, with every last morsel and sauce devoured to the end (photo included as proof). This is the place to come to in Parkdale. Make the ascent to...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant, and it was an unforgettable experience. The moment I stepped in, the warm and welcoming ambiance, adorned with traditional Tibetan and Nepali décor, set the perfect mood for the meal ahead. The highlight was the variety of momos—each perfectly crafted with thin wrappers and flavorful fillings like chicken, pork, and vegetables. The juicy, savory bites were complemented by spicy dipping sauces that added an extra layer of flavor. As a momo lover, I was thoroughly impressed!
Next, I tried their chowmein, and it did not disappoint. The noodles were stir-fried to perfection, with just the right amount of bite, mixed with fresh vegetables and tender chicken. The balance of seasonings made each bite more delicious than the last. The dish was generously portioned and packed with flavors that made it a standout on the menu.
The pork chilli was another highlight. The tender pieces of pork were marinated and cooked with a crispy exterior, while the stir-fry of onions, peppers, and garlic in a tangy, spicy sauce added a bold, fiery punch to the dish. It was a perfect blend of heat and flavor that left me craving more.
The service was exceptional as well, with attentive staff who provided great recommendations and ensured that the dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. For the quality and variety of food, the prices were surprisingly reasonable, making the visit all the more satisfying. Overall, this restaurant offers an authentic, flavorful, and reasonably priced culinary journey into Tibetan and Nepali cuisine that’s well...
