I was running errands in Little Portugal today, and I stumbled into this place, with about 15 minutes to spare, for a little break. I ordered a matcha scone and an iced americano, clumsily spinning the card machine around on its terminal like a windmill. Despite this huge embarrassment, the barista was kind enough to bring me my coffee, and I sat there eating my little sconeāwhich was sweet and tender, and had that matcha flavour I had been cravingāand drinking my little coffee. The scone came with a dull knife and a little container of butter, which I didnāt need, and my iced americano arrived in a nice glass with one of those large single ice cubes, which Iām sure was important because of something to do with surface area (I passed my high school science courses). Seated at the front of the shop in the cozy sunroom, I was given a pleasant view of passersby along Dundas Street. Itās fall, so most people across Toronto are dressed āto the 9āsā, but every time Iām in Little Portugal Iām reminded of a zoning law requiring everyone to be a little beautiful. I saw some local celebrities, for example an old lady who I remember one afternoon holding up an entire sidewalk chatting with friends; as people walked by, they either joined or walked around the spectacle completely unbotheredāa testament to her popularity. I didnāt have much time, and I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often to read and maybe stare out the window a little longer. After 10 minutes or so I got up and left, but for a short time I did feel a little...
Ā Ā Ā Read morein life, there are scones, and then THERE ARE SCONES. this place serves the latter and BOY, are we in Toronto, blessed to have them. Still in their soft opening era, hiya scones has excellent scones - flakey, buttery, a good balance of dense and fluff, while also some innovate flavours. I decided to stick to basics and have a salted caramel scone, and I was blown away.... a really good scone with mascarpone cream which adds that level of sweet. urgh, so gooooooood.
they also serve those classic drinks like coffee and tea. although, i didn't order them, the lady at the counter graciously offered me a glass and a bottle of water - extremely thoughtful and kind.
there is ample amount of seating with both tables and chairs for those studious among us, and long benches for those wanting to chit-chat. there is also a really cool basement spot that looks like a cozy hangout spot that I must investigate more of when i return
i wake up every day just super thankful that toronto is has such a great food and cafe scene - and this place is definitely one you want to say...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVisited Hiya Scones and Coffee for a delightful catch-up session with friends. The unique enclosed balcony seating near the entrance offered a charming view of Dundas St. West, allowing us to soak in the business of Toronto while enjoying our coffee and scones. The service was exceptional, and meeting the owners added a personal touch to our experience. We had a variety of scones, including matcha white chocolate, sweet lime, raspberry white chocolate, and crunchy chocolate, each bursting with delicious flavors. Accompanying our treats were standard lattes and hochija lattes, providing a perfect balance of sweetness and bitterness. Overall, Hiya Scones and Coffee provided a fantastic setting for a morning hangout, and I highly recommend stopping by to support this lovely establishment on...
