Busy strip of Japanese restaurants, but was a miss for Sushi Japan. Service felt slightly slow and one of our orders was incorrect. If you order signature/special rolls, you'll be extremely full with the 9 massive rolls. Overall, there is a lot of food for the value, but for quality and service, this would not have been our first choice. There are much better options around.

Upon entry, there are around 9 tables, seating roughly 40 people total inside. They have a weird semi-outside/solarium divided room which looks out of place with the sliding door and red door. All customers are asked to wait while tables are cleaned up versus cleaned up proactively after each table finishes. Maybe a miss on service for us but we didn't get utensils ahead of time either. We were given a menu to start only. Staff did not check on us and we had to wave them down. Our appetizer came later than our entree. Getting the bill was easy as they take credit or debit cards via their mobile Clover device.

They have an extensive menu with the standard categories of Signature, A-La-Carte, Dinner Entree or Sushi Combos and also a sushi/sashimi boat series. We ended up ordering the Chirashi, Tuna Maki Roll (6 pieces), Vegetable Tempura and supposedly Spicy Salmon Roll. The food was good but was average. We did not get the Spicy Salmon Roll that we ordered. The waitress did not repeat our order when she listened for it and gave us a Spicy Salmon Scallop Roll. However, this roll was felt really lacking, it was full of tempura bits, did not feel like there was scallop at all and tiny slivers of salmon as topping. The Chirashi had some garnish on the rice that was unnecessary and took away from the sashimi on the plate. They did have two types of Tuna but mostly pan-seared option which is different that most places of using raw Tuna. Also, they garnish with carrots on their dishes. The Tuna Maki felt standard but had some weird topping flakes (did not notice a flavour change). The Vegetable Tempura appetizer was delicious and came with some non-standard ones like broccoli...

Loved the decor and ambiance of this Sushi place on 482 Bloor street west. The vibes are relaxing and service is great. Lots of Vegan/ Vegetarian Sushi options. Plus lots of vegan dishes. Loved the fact that they make Miso soup Vegan. We ordered pink love rolls, which was superb. The Vegan Ramen was okay in flavour and taste and it seemed like a packet of Ramen noodles was opened and served with some tofu. The Ramen had no depth of flavour nor was it interesting. Lots of over cooked noodles. I was surprised to find Korean food in a Japanese restaurant. The Tofu veg Bibimbap was served well, but didn’t come up to its competitors in Korea town. Still enjoyed it as I love the crisping of rice and vegetables in the hot stone pot. They also don’t serve all the condiments which normally comes with a Bibimbap. The ramen was served with a salad and some side of glass noodles. The sushi was served with a side of glass noodles and the Bibimbap had a side of salad, noodles and miso soup. Overall I would say that Japan Sushi is a great place for Sushi and next time I shall only go for Sushi. Sushi was so good that after 3 dishes we still ordered a Asparagus Avocado Yam sushi roll.

Amazing service and...

I'm surprised this place has as high of a rating as it does... I was torn between giving this place 2 or 3 stars. I decided on 3 stars because it wasn't the worst sushi I've had, and it was well made, but the sushi itself wasn't very fresh or tasty. I ordered the Love Boat A Combo Platter. Tempura was excellent! And so was the miso soup. However, the actual rolls, sushi and sashimi I had was rather fishy! When I opened the box I could smell a mild fishy smell immediately (duh it's sushi) but it tasted fishier than it smelt! I ate a few pieces of each (nothing worse than wasting food) but couldn't eat everything! It was rather disappointing! Maybe this is because I ordered take out? It appears the boasting reviews with 4/5 stars seem to be from people who had an "in-restaurant" experience. This leads me back to why I settled on 3 stars: I'm willing to give this place another try! But I will be sure to go into the restaurant and sit down. I see reviews about great service here, so I am looking forward to having an...

3rd time's the charm i guess but randomly ordered for pick up and was just blown away by the quality of everything and FRESH! "tatemo oishi desu!"as they say in Nihon : their shrimp tempura is beautifully crispy while you get a nice juicy pop of taste from an actual shrimp! IKR?? normally other places you'd be crunching on tempura for days, pretending there's a sliver of shrimp somewhere in that batter. adore their sushi and sashimi, particularly in how some nigiri is elegantly wrapped in a thin nori ribbon and the rice is exquisitely on point! the daikon (jicama?) strips are super fresh and plentiful, miso is perfectly flavoured and tastes authentic and wakame is yummm. i would drive half an hour to grab sushi here. it's my new fav ;) keep up the awesome umami Japan Sushi!! ps - it's the little details in customer service that also makes a brand successful, like this cute drawing on their take out box
