I opted for the green curry lunch special at just $10, complemented by some crispy noodles for $3. The meal also included a salad and a spring roll for $4, rounded off with a refreshing drink.
Food Quality: The salad was surprisingly fresh, and the spring roll was generously portioned with a tasty dipping sauce. While the appetizers were decent, they didn't break any new ground. I'd rate them 7/10.
Now, the green curry was intriguing. It had a distinct sweetness and an abundance of vegetables, albeit with a scarcity of chicken. Despite being labeled as level two spice, it lacked the expected kick and leaned more toward a sweet profile. The overabundance of bamboo shoots contributed to its overly sweet flavor. I'd give it a 5/10 for taste and deduct a point for the texture, which was thinner than expected.
Service: Service left something to be desired. Despite being seated promptly, it took an uncomfortably long time to flag down our server. Waiting for our appetizers to arrive 20 minutes before the main course was a bit awkward. I'd rate the service 5/10.
Ambiance and Atmosphere: The restaurant's atmosphere was delightful, with unique Thai decorations adorning the walls. It wasn't overly loud, and my friend and I might have been the rowdiest ones there. A solid 10/10 for the ambiance.
Price and Value: The prices were reasonable, with the curry and rice combo at $10 and the complete meal, including spring roll, lettuce, and a drink, for $4. The crispy noodles were also reasonably priced. Overall, a good value for money, earning a 7/10.
Menu Variety: The menu boasted a variety of Thai dishes, from classic pad Thai to a range of curries.
Beverages: Unfortunately, I couldn't sample the Thai milk tea, which I usually love. The soda was a standard $2.
Accessibility and Parking: Parking might be a tad limited, with only 20-30 spots for four restaurants. However, if you consider the entire plaza and don't mind a short walk, finding parking shouldn't be an issue.
Overall Experience: In sum, it was an okay experience. The atmosphere and value for money were highlights, but there were some hiccups in service and the curry's...
Read more"Jatujak" is the world's largest weekend market in Bangkok, Thailand. My wife has a thing for Thai food lately so we were looking to support another local Thai business. This restaurant is located in a busy plaza at the corner of Steeles Ave E and Middlefield Rd. The signage is very visible and lots of free parking available.
We ordered 3 lunch specials which were priced well and the portions were still decent. Pad thai with chicken $9.95 Green Curry chicken $9.95 Thai grilled chicken marinade recipe $11.95
The pad thai had a generous helping of noodles and chicken. There was a lime and crushed peanuts served on the side. The pad thai had more of a sweet than savoury taste. The noodles were cooked well. I have had pad thai from many different places and I would say this dish is catered toward Canadians and didn't have the authenticity. The flavours didn't jump out of the plate but for the price this meal will definitely fill you up! The green curry was a different story. The curry broth had more spices and basil to give it that nice kick. The spice was not that overpowering and was just right. Our bowl had more bamboo shoots than chicken. They used chicken breast meat so that's major plus. We loved pouring the curry broth on the Jasmine rice as it makes the whole dish so much more enjoyable.
The Thai grilled chicken marinade was very good as well. Boneless thigh meat grilled with skin-on served with Jasmine rice and mango salad. There was a dipping sauce green chilies provided for the chicken which gave an extra kick for the chicken.
Overall the experience was great and the food was definitely something we will come back for more. Server was attentive and checked up on us 3 or 4 times to ensure we are enjoying the food. There's a 10% cash discount if you are paying cash. If you're in the area give them a try. Great food and...
Read moreWent here for the first time. We went early evening on Friday. The place was empty except for maybe 3 tables. There was 5-6 staff people just behind the desk and workng in the front. The staff was stand-offish, didn't really greet us except for one who then proceeded to ask if we had reservations. I said no...i then asked about seating off to the side and she said those were reserved (no one sat there the entire time we were there). She then told us we had 90 minutes only to sit, order and eat. we had 3 adults and 2 children. I get the limit but found it odd to mention that especialy since it was our first time here. They have only chicken and beef halal options and there is pork on the menu just fyi. The food we ordered was just okay. We ordered a fried whole fish. When it came it was cut in pieces and deep fried. They bring the whole fish and present it with the cut pieces. It was very hard. I didn't see any actual fish meat but the fried parts were moreso bones and a thick batter layer. It was terrible. So not worth the price. You are better off buying your own fish and just throwing it onto the bbq. I will most likely not ever come to this restaurant again. There's plenty of nice thai restaurants with better food portions and flavor. Staff makes a huge difference and customers' experiences. I would give them 0 out of 5...
