3.5 stars... very cool spot to chill on a sunny day
This Jimmy's location was such a pleasant surprise. With most spots in Kensington, you're expect smaller or cramped spaces with not a lot of light. Imagine my surprise to walk in and spot a large outdoor patio in the back!
Jimmy's is a local coffee brand that has a few spots around Toronto. I would say that out of all the spots I've tried in Kensington, the atmosphere here is definitely a plus. It's chill and relaxed with a lot of varying spaces to sit and enjoy a cup. On a Sunday morning, there was a decent amount of the lap top horde sitting and taking up an entire table. Since they had their patio open, it doubles the sitting space and the back patio is just wonderful. It's clean and has a lot of shaded parts in addition to tables just baking in the sun.
The coffee served here is fairly consistent to the other spots I've tried around Toronto. It's solid and above average... they do have seasonal offerings. It seems they were starting to do their cold brew offering. Summer is coming! I stuck to my favourite flat white to determine the flavour of the beans and see if I like it a lot.
Service here was quicker than their Ossington spot as they had 3 people behind the counter working the cash or pulling the shots. I think their prices are very fair as well. You won't feel gouged when you pay. You do have to pay extra for things like Almond milk but I think it was only $0.50 extra. So very reasonable.
Flat White - This was not a real flat white as the drink is definitely sweetened or had some sort of syrup added. This was a bit of a surprise. I also noticed that the foam was overfrothed and the actual drink itself was not very hot. Aside from these details, I found the drink fairly enjoyable for a flavoured coffee drink. The coffee taste wasn't so bold but it wasn't acidic either... though hard to tell with it being sweetened. I wouldnt think this is the best cup in Kensington but if it's the price to pay to sit in a nice back patio, it would be worth it. 3/5
Overall, the space in the summer is a great spot to be in if you just want to chill in Kensington for a while. I can imagine this getting really full of people once June hits. Hopefully if I come back, I can still...
Read moreJIMMY IS STILL THE MANNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crack house on the outside, country club on the inside, this is one crack-a-lackin good coffee shop you don't wanna miss out on. Came here one sunny day after visiting the AGO (would HIGHLY recommend), and just like the other locations I've been to, Jimmy did not disappoint. I got the only order I ever f&@king get, an iced matcha latte. Hot tip: instead of getting it sweetened with sugar, ask for the vanilla syrup. It will run you about 80 cents more, but when I tell you I have never felt better about spending 80 cents I mean it with every inch of my itty bitty heart. Ended up paying about 6 bucks in total for the matcha, which I think is a perfectly reasonable price. There is only ever one barista working there, so you will have to wait your impatient little a$$ a little longer than you would at ur Starbucks coffee chain. #smallbusinesses Service from Baristas is always nice- they do seem slightly high, but hey I'm not complaining because they are very very nice to me. There is ample seating and an outdoor patio for when it gets warmer. Have not tried other things at this location but if the baked goods are consistently as good as the matcha at this location, I'd give it a go! Gave 4 stars instead of 5 because my all time fav matcha is still from Sanremo bakery or Pilot coffee roasters! Don't let the sketchy...
Read moreOn Tuesday April 23rd around 530pm I approached Jimmy's and there was someone out front smoking and chatting with a friend. He told me he would be with me when he finished his cigarette as I entered. I came to purchase a bag of espresso beans.
I looked around and didn't see anything labeled espresso so just picked a random bag and waited for him at checkout. I thought it unusual for an employee to finish up a smoke when there was a client waiting to pay but perhaps that's part of their operating procedure?
Eventually he entered and went behind the counter. I noticed at the checkout, that there was a bag of espresso so I left the other bag of beans on the table. The employee asked sarcastically "So I guess we are just going to leave the other bag here?". Wth?! I asked if there was a problem and he said it's common courtesy to put things back where I found them. The nerve of him to complain about restocking is hilarious. The bravado to explain what is courtesy only add to his complete tone deafness. I said, well it's courtesy to take care of a customer rather than chat outside and finish your smoke, I guess we are even. He then exclaimed "Don't let the door hit you on the way out!" As I left.
I'd suggest he needed some training after this encounter but I don't think pre-schools take 20...
