Not real Afghan food!
I used to go here quite often during 2015-2019, I came again in 2024 and the owner has changed and is now Pakistani and changed up the menu a LOT. There is now more Pakistani items on the menu than Afghani dishes. That was the first alarming issue.
My family order our food (from the Afghani side of the menu) and the only thing fresh item that arrived was the naan. The rice seemed to be heated up and cooked a day before, it had big clumps stuck together. The chicken was way over cooked (check pictures). The salad was very dry, as if it was cut up another day and stored in the fridge, not fresh at all!
This is not a genuine Afghan restaurant, and is using the previous owners business in bad taste. Since there is no other locations, it's best that they rebrand so it's not misleading. Just because you have Afghani items on the menu doesn't make it an Afghani restaurant if you can't prepare it the way Afghan expected, yet the owner had the audacity to say that they disagree and think everything is fine. Look at other reviews as well and you'll see others feel the same way.
Final thoughts: This has nothing to do with them including Pakistani items to their menu, but rather the the misleading restaurant name "Kabul Express" and the poor quality of the Afghani dishes served. Want Afghani food? You're better off looking elsewhere, don't waste your...
Read moreTHE BEST, MOST DELICIOUS FOOD! I don't live in Toronto but whenever I come here, Kabul Express is LITERALLY the first and last place I eat at, without fail. I have NEVER been disappointed by this place. The owner are absolutely adorable and kind humans who greet you with smiles at whatever time of day you go there. It's a small place but it's clean and kempt. The place also has wheelchair accessible doorway and pushbutton doors for easy entry (and they work, shocking for Toronot honestly). Now to the food- I am South Asian, having lived in India majority of my life. I know flavour and food well enough and I can say, it's absolutely amazing food. India does Veg excellent but I think I was missing the Pakistani non vegetarian flavour and that's what you get at Kabul Express. It's absolutely tender, flavourful meat with great gravies and excellent rice. Even their plain rice is flavored. PLAIN RICE? Which is a HUGE dish for like 6$ btw. The chicken biryani (FULL SIZED) is $9! Everything is enough quantity to sustain for two days and one person can eat within $20 no questions.
It is NOT AFGHAN FOOD THO! The name is a bit deceiving but it's excellent food nonetheless.
I RECOMMEND- Chicken Kabab Curry, Chicken Biryani, Chapli Kabab, Nihari and CHAI (most full...
Read moreI can't stop raving to my friends about the food at Kabul Express! I ate here once over the winter of 18-19; I loved what I ate at that time, but I'd forgotten to write a review. Well, I went there again today, and the food was outstanding again! I ordered the chicken tandoori "gold platter" (I believe it was); it came with lentil soup, a small salad, the drink, two pieces of naan RIGHT out of the tandoor oven, and 5 huge pieces of tandoori chicken! The naan was literally melt-in-your-mouth delicious. I poured the lentil soup over some of the delicious, long-long-long grain rice because I'd thought the rice might not have much taste; wrong! The rice had a terrific taste all of its own, but the lentil soup on top didn't kill it, either. ;) The chicken was tandoori-style flavorful and the meat itself was absolutely succulent. All that for $15 Canadian! I'll definitely be returning soon, as I can't wait to try other dishes on...
