I don't get to go out very often with my friends because I don't always have extra money to spend on entertainment so when I do I really look forward to it. One of my friends told me she heard that Krystos was a great restaurant with good food so we decided to give it a shot. At first, the service was great. Actually, for the most part our waitress was great. She came over a few times and asked if everything was ok. We all ordered the souvlaki dinner which came with rice and salad. I eat Greek food when I can, it's one of my favorites. This was not great. The chicken was a weird texture. The salad is not what I am used to when ordering a Greek salad and most places give you roasted potatoes. For the price we paid here (I think it was $25, much higher than anywhere else I've been) it didn't come with potatoes or pita bread. I asked the waitress if there was pita included and she said there was not but was very nice to say that she would bring us some. When it was time to pay our bill, she stood around us while we were calculating what we owed. I felt rushed and it made me anxious. One of my friends worked out what she owed and paid her part and my other friend and I were calculating how much tip to leave her. She was standing right there as we were discussing it. She then was rude to my friend saying hers didn't factor in any tip since her payment just went towards the bill even though what she left was with tip in mind. My other friend and I were taking that into consideration and calculating the bill on the total order, so she would get her full tip. We were going to tip her 25% but lowered it to 20% just because of how she kept trying to make my friend feel bad for not leaving a tip (when in fact she did). We paid the bill and decided to leave her another $5 on top of what we had already left and she was standing behind us the whole time watching what we were doing. My friend wanted to take that $5 back just to make a point but didn't. As we were leaving I turned to her and I said thank you have a good night. She replied "yeah". I will never go back again. Not only because there are way better places that give you a lot more for less money (I would pay$25 for the meals I get elsewhere any day) but also how she made us feel. Pita Pavillion is more of a take out kind of place with limited seating but food is much better! EDIT~Since I can't respond to the restaurants reply to me I will respond here. NO I am not talking about when she was behind me at the station, I'm talking about when she was standing in front of our table waiting while we discussed the bill. She made us very uncomfortable waiting there. I even said that we needed a minute to work it out and she didn't leave our side! Also she did not reply have a great day. I was actually the one that said that to her and she replied "yeah". Don't try to convince me of anything else, I know...
Read moreKrystos was a family favorite, we have enjoyed many meals together there. The service was great, atmosphere welcoming and the food was good. Unfortunately that is not the case anymore - the service has declined, cleanliness is questionable and the food is not fresh or cooked properly.
There is usually only one server tending to the entire restaurant, the poor server is overworked and stressed out ! The last family get together was this pass weekend. We sat down and waited over 20 minutes for our server, we understood she was doing the best she could. We ordered our food, a mixture of dishes that included beef, fish and chicken. The two chicken dinners arrived, not charcoal grilled but almost " boiled or steamed" the inside was still pink. They had to be returned to be cooked some more, the mussels were not cleaned, they were gritty and had an off taste, all of the salads had discolored lettuce - just old and not fresh.
To top it all off, as we were getting ready to leave we went to the bathroom only to have a mouse run across the hallway entrance - we left immediately.
To the Owners of this restaurant - it is truly sad to see how this restaurant is being maintained. It needs a deep clean from top to bottom. Get rid of your plants or learn to maintain them because the restaurant has little flies which are gnats from your plants. The chef needs to stop preparing food in advance and focus on providing FRESH foods in order to retain your customer base. I am not the only patron the left feeling the same way. There was a couple leaving stating they would never return.
The good thing is we live in Toronto and there are lots of great greek restaurants that provide better quality food and a clean...
Read moreDining at Krystos Modern Greek Cuisine was a delightful blend of creative ambiance and satisfying dishes. Greek Mezze Board: It set a high bar for the meal. The hummus was creamy, while the babaganoush brought a rich eggplant flavour. The tirokafteri, a zesty whipped feta dip, added just the right amount of heat. Paired with falafels, vibrant stuffed grape leaves, and fresh vegetables, it was a generous, shareable start that celebrated Mediterranean flavours. Beef and Lamb Gyro Dinner: Tender, savoury gyro strips were served over rice and potatoes. A refreshing Greek salad and tangy tzatziki sauce rounded out the plate, making it a hearty and balanced dish. Pork Souvlaki Dinner: While flavourful, the pork was slightly overcooked, leaving it a bit dry. Thankfully, the creamy tzatziki helped offset this. Like the gyro dinner, the rice, potatoes, and salad provided a satisfying and well-rounded meal. Greek Frappe: This sweet, refreshing iced coffee paired well with the meal. Krystos Sangria (Red) : A light and fruity mix with vibrant hues, it complemented the dishes beautifully. Homemade Baklava: A classic treat that wrapped up my meal. Warm, aromatic layers of phyllo pastry encased finely sliced walnuts and almonds, all covered in a fragrant cinnamon powder and sweet glaze. It was a rich and unforgettable indulgence. While the food and service were excellent, the men’s room was disappointing, with a broken faucet, paper dispenser, and hand dryers. Despite this minor inconvenience, the hearty portions and Mediterranean-inspired decor make Krystos a destination...
