I HAD A TERRIABLE EXPERINCE IN THIS PLACE!! On Sunday 03/30/25 at 7:00 I called the place and placed an order for pickup, I called the guy on the phone and asked him can I get 1x Mutton Spicy Kotthu (extra meat) 1x Chicken Kotthu (Mild) And the guy said "When do you want the food to be ready" And, I said "Exactly in 10 minutes" As I got there, I was expecting the food to be ready, but they didn't even got my order, I asked the lady "I'm here to pick up my order and told her the exact order" Turns out they didn't make my food and told me to wait in line for a extra 10 min as 10 mins passed by I asked them Is my food ready but I just keep getting the same response over and over again "Please wait it's coming" As time passes by I am in line for 40 mins and I still didn't get anything I was expected to get the food after 10 mins, but no. The workers kept on ignoring me and was busy serving other costumers their food and especially their kotthu that they ordered. It got to the point where I stand in the front counter because I was so fed up and waiting patiently and nicely for my food to come and the kotthu cookers didn't even make the food on the grail since 7:20 which wasted my time. The workers were too busy talking to other employees and didn't even mention the pickup order that I made at exactly at 7. Worst part is that I paid the food in advanced when I came to the store thinking that they will have my food ready to go but instead they made me wait for 40 mins, which is not good costumer service because you're supposed to make a promise to your costumers that they will get your food ready when your ordered through the phone, the guy on the phone said that he will get the food ready in 10 mins, but that wasn't promised making me wait like I ordered the food in person. I ORDORED ON THE PHONE SO I CAN GET MY FOOD AS SOON AS I GET THERE NOT WAIT HALF N HOUR FOR MY FOOD. This is the problem with costumer service not giving their costumers a good satisfaction service and especially Martin Bakery it supposed to be one of the best bakerys in scarbrough and how are you calling it. When you ignore your costumers and don't give them the satisfaction and especially since costumers order on the phone your supposed to get their orders ASAP instead of taking people's orders who order in person. Especially as an 16 yr old kid, I felt like the employees took advantaged of me, I was trying to be polite and nice but the employees couldn't care enough and that is why I WILL NOT BE VISITING THIS PLACE AGAIN DUE TO THE UNEXPECTED SERVICE I GOT. Especially coming from a Thamil community, I expect the thamil restaurant to do better on providing good costumer service and not treating their costumers like strangers, these costumers are supposed to make your business grow, but instead you provide messy and sloppy costumer service not just Martin Bakery but Thamil stores in Markham too. Since they come across the same issue as well. I am not bashing on Thamil owned restaurant business I'm just saying that Martin bakery needs to do better on providing good costumer service and always pick the mobile phone orders ASAP before costumer's who order in person do because there is a reason on why people do mobile phone orders.

A bakery established in Canada since 2000, serving the community for over 3 generations. My foodie buddy told me about this very popular place in Scarborough for Sri Lankan food, so I wanted to give it a try since I know nothing about this cuisine. This place apparently has the best mutton rolls in town, so it’s a good place to start. Mutton rolls are distinctively Sri Lankan, and its mutton, potatoes, and spices wrapped in a crepe with breadcrumb coating and fried. The store was really busy; when I came, there was a line up of people (it moved very quickly though). It sold a variety of different items, including rolls, roti wraps, buns, kothu roti and more. Most people seem to be buying mutton rolls, and the lady before me bought 10! I tried the mutton roll for $1.95 each, and I also got the butter chicken roll for $1.50 each because others recommended it in Google Reviews. I liked both rolls, but mutton’s more unique to me, and it also doesn’t have a bad gamey smell. Both rolls are quite filling, but the mutton roll is a lot larger than the butter chicken roll.

I recently visited this place and tried their Egg and Veg Kothu Roti, Egg Bun, Veg Bun, Veg Roti, Spring Rolls and Veg Roll and everything is tasty and the price is also reasonable one thing I would say is if you like spicy food then you might not like Egg Kothu Roti as it's a bit bland so I would suggest Veg Kothu Roti with add on Egg, Also Kothu roti is made in front of the customers so that can be a treat if you like to see you food get prepared but some people might not like it as well, I interacted with staff and they were also friendly and suggested things which were good, They are always busy so whenever you go you have to wait for a little bit but that is worth it for the taste and price as well it means we get freshly cooked food especially for snacks. Also to me both the times they offered to heat up the snacks if I want to eat it right away while other places we have to ask them to heat it up and some places they might not even do it so I appreciate the extra steps that they take for their customers.

Amazing place! Went in today morning to get mutton rolls and roti, and they were simply beyond my expectations! Perfect taste and the rolls very crisp, soft and chewy! Roti were soft and large! More than the food, I really appreciate the owner's honesty (since we were going to buy cake that was listed for 5$, but they said it was baked yesterday and the crust was darkened, and offered freshly baked cake instead, when in fact they could have hided that like any money-minded business owner). Kudos to you guys! your honesty and hard work will help you reach heights. Please continue the great work! God bless. Definitely returning and going to rave about this place to my friends!

  • UPDATE * I visited today (January 2024) and had a unpleasant experience. I purchased two bags of roast bread, along with other items. I went to my car and noticed that the bread was stale and went back to ask for an exchange. I didn't skip the line and waited in the line to ask for an exchange. Once my turn came, I was told by a gentleman (owner's brother I'm assuming) that "for sanitary reasons, we cannot accept any food that was taken outside the premise." I was taken aback and showed that the roast bread was still bagged. Furthermore, barely two minutes passed between the time to my car and back to the store. I didn't want to make a scene over 4$ and left without making a commotion. I understood their valid concern that I could have potentially contaminated the food and returned it for an exchange in bad faith. Considering that this didn't occur, I'm a bit disappointed with the outcome. Plus, I wanted to also ask what they would do if the food is spoiled or rotten? or contaminated with mold? would they still argue that they can't offer an exchange/refund because it left the restaurant's premises. A single review like mine wouldn't obviously slow down their business and that isn't my goal either. I understand that they too worked hard to get where they are right now and as you may see in my earlier review (which I originally gave 5 stars but sadly had to revert it to 1 star now). However, I am posting this review in the hopes that other customers (especially loyal ones like me who've been visiting for over 4 years now) don't experience the same issue. I advise others to please check your items before you pay or before you leave the store. As customers you have the right to quality service and transparency in policies. Don't pay until you are 100% sure you are getting quality food. If the service is bad, there is no point purchasing anything at any place. Martin's Bakery - you've lost a customer from hereafter and I hope you learn something valuable from...

This is the only take out restaurant where I found veggie buns with very low oil usage. I don't know how much oil is being used for the curry inside, but the bun outside is dry as it should be! I have tried veggie/fish buns in other places like Babu Catering -- even though the size of the bun is bigger, there is too much oil on the bun, and so I avoid it for health reasons.

Martin's bakery tries to be efficient with its service, but it fails somewhat regularly, due to bad queue management and undisciplined customers who jump the queue. The store should take responsibility by enforcing strict queue management -- done easily with an entrance queue service ticket.

Also, remove the food items that are displayed on top of the glass top, because the neither customers nor the servers can see each other on account of most people being short in stature. This also leads to the servers serving the loudest customer first because she can't see who is in the line next.

Veggie bun lovers can easily be disappointed because they serve non-veg a lot more. But in the days they have veggie buns, you can enjoy them because they are tasty.

The interior is also quite small. Maybe the store needs to expand. No matter when I go, there is a crowd.

I called ahead once (2 hr lead time), but it didn't help. They were making the food even after I arrived. There must be high demand for their food,...
