Three words for the future and recurring customers of this restaurant - Don't go.
For any restaurant there are always two components at work, food and service. Pasteur Pho is a prime example that fails to provide either of components. The service at Pasteur Pho always consists of one server who takes incredibly long time to take order, blatantly demanding 15% or more tips, lack of manners, where the food is mediocre at best.
One of my worst experience at Pho Pasteur was a few days ago. The server prioritized taking order based on the table with more people, and ignored the one person table who wanted to order. Hence, leaving tables, with one person, wait for a great deal of time. I was there about 20 minutes just trying to get the orders in. It wasn't that the restaurant was full, it was only sitted for 1/3 of the portion. It was rather that the server was slow and has gotten slower with prioritizing table with 2 or more customers. When I thought this could not get any worse, it seemed that I have eyewitness the server picking a fight with the customer. The server seemed to be telling the customer that he cannot leave because he only paid 10% tip and not 15%. I have been in a similar situation, where I have not even received my changes yet, the server cusses in Vietnamese that I am not putting down any tips. The server is rude.
The food is often times too greasy and unhygienic for its barely mediocre taste. Only people who might find this place delicious are drunk people at 3 am where most of the other restaurants are closed.
The only benefit of 24/7 open restaurant is not worth all the details that come with this place. To add insult to the injuries, this restaurant ONLY ACCEPTS CASH.
Throughout the years of my visits, it used to have at least the mediocre service with a quality food. It seems that the things are only getting worse with this restaurant. Now I would not even go if someone pays me to...
Read morei have been going to pho pasteur occasionally for the past 20 odd years, on and off. however, the morning of aug 8, 2016, 10am, will be my last visit to this now horrible restaurant. i ordered a medium sized bowl of pho, beef shoulder with tripe.
the service: after i put my order in, it only took a few minutes. the server brought my condiment plate and bowl of soup together. usually the condiments are delivered first, then the soup.
what i got:
the condiments: the basil and sawtooth corriander are old, and of poor quality. the bean sprouts are quite old, and yellow beige in color. fresh bean sprouts are white when fresh.
the soup: the broth was quite murky. the broth was also EXTRA oily, and its temperature was lukewarm. i am pretty sure that my bowl of soup was takened from the bottom of a pot of old soup; it was that bad. they should have told me or not serve me the soup at all. the beef shoulder and tripe were okay. but what really disgusted me was the quality of the broth: it was bad. if i could post the rating WITHOUT A SINGLE STAR, i would have preferred that. pho pasteur does not deserve 1 star at all for what they served me.
there are some very good pho restaurants in toronto. here is my short list: Golden Turtle, Rua Vang, 125 Ossington Street, Toronto (one of the best in the city), it is north vietnamese style broth, near-clear in character Pho Huong Truong, 3370 Keele Street, Toronto
Oct 2022... Its post covid and im curious about the state of pho pasteur.... ordered a small beef and tripe pho and its certainly better than what i experienced awhile back. Its a younger group of people running it now (still a family run business) and its better service than my prev visit....3 stars from 1... It will still be last on my list in the old...
Read moreMy family and I have been loyal customers for over 5 years, and I am SO angry and disappointed at how badly the business has changed!! Last night they lost our business forever. As many reviews have noted, the prices have recently undergone an insane markup! I live in Aurora now but still make the drive downtown once in a while because the pho had been the best I've ever discovered. I did not know the prices had changed before I went in last night. Brought my $40 cash and ordered 3 small soups. Two were to be only noodles and broth. Again, ordering this for years without issue and they always charged us less for such a basic pho. Last night was staff I had never seen before. They acted totally confused and offended by my order. Tried telling me plain soup is "yucky" and I should change my order. I told them I've been getting this for years, no problem. Finally they figure it out and then hand me a bill for $50!!!! I said for 3 small takeout soups???? I look and they are charging me $15 for the small bowl of just noodles and broth. I again explain how I've been coming for years, getting charged less, and that I had drove down all the way from Aurora. I said I only brought $40 cash like always. They gave ZERO cares. Said maybe we did it that way before but not anymore. So I left there with only 2 soups instead of the 3 I wanted. For the sake of $9, NINE, you just lost an entire family of loyal customers. Who still traveled in during covid and everything. I am so furious and letdown. I see many people are angry with your insane prices now and I hope it damages your business and causes you to remember the customer...
