Very disappointed with this place. It was highly recommended to us. We were there for about 2 hours. We walked in and one of the staff asked us "how many?" and then just walked away. Another member of the staff walked up to us shortly thereafter. We told him "Two" and he walked us to our seats. For the next hour and a half, we were invisible. We quickly looked over the menu and awaited service. Tables around us were being seated, served and cleared, but no one stopped by our table to ask what we would like to order or how the night was going. After about 15 minutes, I walked up to the bar and tried to flag down a staff member to talk to for about 3 minutes. Finally I was noticed. I asked if we order at the bar or if someone would come to our table. He told me "someone will stop by your table." I pointed in the direction of where we were seated, but before I could say "we haven't been helped yet," he was gone. I returned to our table for another 10 minutes. Finally I returned to the bar. After another few minutes of trying to get someone's attention, the barkeeper asked what I wanted. I ordered some drinks, some waters, and our food. I then pointed to my girlfriend sitting alone at our table and he told me he knew which one. I returned to my table with our drinks. My girlfriend and I were still very hungry at this point and we notice a couple tables were being served their food even though they were seated after us. About 20 minutes later, we noticed a waitress looking around very confused as no one was accepting the order that looked very similar to the one I had placed. I flagged her down. She looked as and seemed very confused when I told her I was pretty sure that was my order. She said it was supposed to be for the group next to us according to the ticket. (This was one of two large groups seated around us. They arrived after us and most of them were finished with their meals at this point.) Then we noticed our appetizer was missing (usually brought out...BEFORE the meal). As no waiter stopped by again and our drinks were empty, I returned to the bar to order new drinks. I also mentioned that our order of poutine never showed up. He looked back at the computer and then back at me. He then apologized because he had entered it in wrong. He got my new drinks and said it will be at my table shortly. 5 minutes later, another waitress is walking around with an order of Poutine, looking more and more confused as each table she stops at is rejecting it. Again I flag her down and she says she will have a talk with the bar because the ticket said it belonged to one of the large groups near us. We finished our food. That was the first time a staff member stopped by our table without being flagged down.. He collected our empty plates and brought us a box at our request. I stopped by the bar to close out my tab. The bartender apologized for mis-ordering our appetizer and having the food sent to the wrong table. He made the appetizer complementary.
The bus boy and the free appetizer are the only reason I did not give a 1 star review. I do not plan to return to this place, nor do I plan on recommending...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm giving this place 5 stars, right out of the gate, for their great atmosphere, creatively designed space, high domed partially covered glass ceiling, allowing natural light to flood their restaurant, year-round. It's partially covered, so there's shade as well.
Located on the rooftop of Fran's on College St., this Bar & Grill offers spectacular views of the city below and above. Furniture is newly crafted picnic tables (stain should be darker, though), wood bar (needs darker stain), retro signing, alphabet lighting over the bar.
All the staff were attentive and friendly. The bartender must have noticed me looking at the draught beer options, at the bar, and walked over to our table and asked me if we had any questions. They obviously care, which is nice!
Their menu has numerous options! They offer a brunch menu, but don't snub out the Lunch Crowd (I prefer wings and beer to eggs and Bloody Ceasars). I had their parmesan wings, which I was told had the parmesan baked in the wings, but the wings appeared to be fried with parmesan spinkled on them. I asked for Blue Cheese dip, which was a great addition, but you may want another sauce on the side for these guys. I also had their dill fries, which were highly addictive.
They have regular wings, as well, but I like Honey Garlic wings, and they only had the standard hot options and BBQ, which a lot of places limit themselves, these days.
My boyfriend had their house burger with cheese and fries, which looked delicious!! He also ordered a slice of cheesecake, which initially MAY have been forgotten, as we waited a while, but after it was delivered and consumed, the bartender treated us to a tasty shooter called the Creamsicle, which was a tasty banana shot. That's the best way to make up for that!!
My boyfriend likes Molson Canadian, which they had in bottles, as most of their beer pulls are craft beers, which I love. They also have Pabst Blue Label and Old Style Pilsner on tap for $4. They're not necessarily pints of beer, but that's cool! The other options were under $7. Not sure if they were pint sizes, or not.
In the end, this place has been opened for 6 weeks and it's a welcome option! I live in the area, and we struggle finding new and interesting establishments to have lunch in this area, on the weekends. There are a lot of chain restaurants, or restaurants who only have a Brunch menu with only a burger as their lunch option. Fran's Upper Deck has the benefit of their kitchen and resources, with a distinct menu from Frans.
Kudos to the new restaurant!! I will definitely come again and try out their other, vast food options. I may even stop by for a late-morning coffee! The atmosphere is calming in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOkay, I donāt usually leave reviews, whether it was a great experience or not. HOWEVER, this is the WORST experience I ever had in any bars or pubs Iāve been to. Before today, I used to like this place as they had one of my fav beer as well as great service. But today, which was Sunday evening, maybe theāve put random floating manager or what, this guy who didnāt even seem to know what heās doing took our order and was VERY RUDE. Ridiculously RUDE. We asked for Belgian Moon and heās like āIāve never heard of thatā and gave us an attitude. Well, good for you DUDE. To not know the beer you once carried at your store, what a great way to be proud of yourself. That guy seemed like a manager and seriously I DONāT KNOW HOW. With that attitude? Ok whatever, itās been a while and itās hard to know all the drinks you carry at the store I guess? We ordered pint of beer as it was ā all day/nightā happy hour and instead they give us pitcher. And this guy says they canāt do anything as it was already poured, and tells us we should have been wrong becuz they ALWAYS CONFIRM the order after taking them. They DID NOT confirm the order first of all, and the lady who took the order actually explained us what the happy hour was about and told us to get in pints. So WE DID ASK HER AS WE WERE TOLD TO, and now WHAT? Doesnāt make sense at all.i So he gave us the pitcher when we ordered pint and charged us more when it was āhappy hourā. ???????????????????????? This guy took one of our credit card, which was understandable I thought. But waitress comes and asks who the order is for and how she should divide the bill? Huh? So, itās obvious that you guys donāt communicate and did you just take our credit card without having to? By the way, they only had 2 tables including ours. The store wasnāt busy AT ALL. Itās just so sad to see one person ruining our experience and so therefore, loosing our fav on spot to...
