Did a menu change and price adjustments. I guess I should’ve seen it coming when last week their add on topping went from 45c to 55c for the first time in over a year, but that’s Toronto I guess. Cant fault restaurant (even though they were already quite pricey to begin with)
Took chutzpah off the menu, now there’s a 4$ upcharge to add a latke to any old bagel, plus any topping upcharges to try to recreate it. Really sucks because all of that included in one standard price is what made chutzpah so attractive, and by far their best bagel for the price and flavour wise.
Farshtunken somehow costs 50c less now than it did before so that’s good I guess? (Also Anthony please add sour cream back to it like you did all those years ago. Also is it still the 3 different herring styles or just one now? Just curious)
Wherever “full sour pickle” used to be listed (e.g. schmendrick) now says “hot shaved pickle” ….yum :/
Bring back the chutzpah please, even if it’s 18$ instead of your new standard 16.5
Also that Johnathan boy is killing it keep it up...
Read moreSchmaltz Appetizing is a true Toronto treasure. From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with that perfect blend of old-school deli charm and modern creativity. The quality of the ingredients is second to none—everything tastes incredibly fresh, and you can tell there’s real care behind every item on the menu.
Their bagel sandwiches are on another level. The smoked fish is buttery, rich, and perfectly balanced with their toppings, and don’t even get me started on the cream cheese—it’s magic. Whether I’m grabbing a quick bite or treating myself to a weekend brunch, Schmaltz always delivers.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and clearly love what they do. They make you feel welcome and never rush you, even when it’s busy (which it often is, for good reason). This place nails it on all fronts: food, service, and atmosphere.
If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favour and go. Schmaltz isn’t just one of the best spots in Toronto—it’s a...
Read moreWe stopped by for a quick lunch because the high reviews and I am a big fan of smoke salmon and any kind of smoke fish. We walked into a small room with dim lights and a back facing staff behind the sandwich counter. We ordered two of their “ signature bagels” with smoked salmon and white fish, the bill came up a little over $30 (the most expensive bagel sandwich I ever had)...the first bite was disappointing, because all I could taste was salt, the fish tasted stale and way too salty, (if I rate PC brand smoked salmon as 6, this smoked salmon could be 2) cream cheese was sickening salty and the bagel itself was nothing different than a store bought package. Also, the place didn’t give me an impression of cleanliness, the condiments sitting in the sandwich counter didn’t look fresh at all, if it wasn’t because the reviews, I would have walked right out as soon as I stepped in. Disappointed in food...
