EXPERIENCE: Unfortunate. I ordered on uber where the restaurant is offering a "Wednesday Special" for a small pizza with two boylan's drinks for $21.99. I ordered 2 of these specials so my wife and I each could get a pizza and a few extra drinks. On top of that, the restaurant was offering a free Caesar Salad for anyone spending $30 or more. I had already exceeded $30 so I enabled the offer for the free Caesar Salad. My expected order is 2 pizzas, 1 salad, and 4 drinks. Cintia comes with my order, super nice and told me to be patient as she carefully unpacked her items. This is where things got interesting....
In my order were the two pizzas, the 4 drinks, but no salad. I tagged the issue on Uber but then proceeded to call the restaurant because I was expecting salad and Uber would take up to 48 hours to respond. Assuming I could go get my salad, I would cancel my complaint. Yes, I offered to go pick up my delivery food. This is where it gets even more interesting...
I called the restaurant. A really nice woman answered the phone and when I explained my situation about the missing salad said that she would ask the kitchen manager if I could come pick it up as I had offered to do. The kitchen manager, apparently, had unilaterally decided that since I got two specials, I should not also get my free salad; all items that are on their menu with no listed restrictions or greyed out options. Further, the woman let me know that the kitchen manager was trying to contact his boss to ask what to do and I could hear the phone going to voicemail in the background multiple times. I requested 5 times to speak to the kitchen manager and he refused, to the point that the phone was just sitting there with no one on the other end. I hung up and called back and let the woman know that I would be coming in to get my salad and speak to the kitchen manager in person.
I did that. I went to the restaurant (10 minutes away) where I spoke to both the woman and the kitchen manager. He continued to argue with me that I should not get the salad in front of other customers (who later told me they fully supported me and not the restaurant) until he finally, and reluctantly, gave in. It would be understandable if they did not send two extra drinks and left a note telling me why, but instead they took away the item that was already being given out for free. Makes no sense. I do not think I have ever been this frustrated/angry with a business in my life. I was literally standing in the store being told I could not have the food I ordered, paid for and that they accepted to produce for me.
FOOD: Food is good but I had to reheat my pizza from cold by the time the restaurant owned up to doing proper business. There are other Detroit Style pizza places in Toronto that I will be supporting going forward. Definitely not coming back here or attempting delivery ever again.
OWNER: Would appreciate an email from you. This is the worst customer experience I have ever had in my life. Not an exaggeration. Really unfortunate that it had to be at your business.
UPDATE: The restaurant manager, not the owner, called me. While she attempted to explain the promotions again I reminded her that my experience here with the staff was the issue. Not the promotion. Hopefully this place learns how to better treat customers...
Read moreShhhh... born and raised in Detroit, here. I have to say... sigh. OK. I'll say it; I've had Buddy's, Shield's, Buschemi's, Pizza Papalis. Shield's still has my heart for that je ne sais quoi taste, but THIS STUFF RIGHT HERE. I've only had the Motor City pie, but I've had it about 6 times now. And think about having it again all the time.
I miss lots of things about being home (seriously, Detroit metro is a special place, just as much nature as buildings, I'm a musician, I'm Black, there's no place like Detroit and I'll always say so), but I don't miss a very particular taste of home with this pizzeria near me. This is not exact, it's actually better crafted. Like it has something to prove. And I let it, because it just tastes carefully, thoughtfully made to impress. It's juicy, nasty in the best way, crispy and just greasy enough. I do have to ask for more cheese and sauce each time, but that's ok. The sauce is strong and lovely, the cheese tastes right, the mixture of flavours in the Motor City pie is exceptional, from the veggies to the interplay of pork and pepperoni down to the splash of ranch strewn across (in Detroit style its usually just on the side but very welcome here).
It's an extremely delicious bite, and makes me very happy that I live near enough by it. I appreciate the little bit of home and hope this place stays open for a...
Read moreI was happy with a Detroit pizzeria opened up near me and have been waiting to try it. My partner and I ordered from Skip the other day. We ordered a small Cancun, a small Motor City, arancini, and a Detroit greens salad. We got a free small plain pizza as well.
Although the food was fresh and hot, I think I would prefer to eat there or do pick-up next time so it's even more fresh. Either way, it held up well unlike some things you order on delivery.
The arancini were delicious. They were a mushroom base, which my partner didn't love, but he still liked them. The sauce was a perfect pair with it and very fresh tasting. I loved how they weren't covered, so there was still a crunchy coating.
I loved the Detroit salad as well. It was nice to have a lot of fresh, light, vegetables to pair with our cheesy pizza.
I loved the plain pizza. The Motorcity and Cancun were both equally as amazing. Lots of fresh ingredients with a good topping to crust ratio. I thought the Cancun would be too spicy for me, but it was perfect. They were all packed with flavour. I can't wait to...
