Food 2 stars, legit, they could improve on their food.
But the service, plating, decor, and atmosphere is 5 stars.
We did the 8lb king crab and 8lb lobster set menu… for 13 ppl. The price was ONLY $180pp including tax and 13% tip.. I mean the price was decent considering you are paying for the overall service, decor, and dining experience.
I said $180pp ONlY, not as a joke. Anywhere else you go for this type of dinner will cost $130 to $150pp. But again, the service, decor, spacious VIP dining room, private washroom, 70inch karaoke TV needs to be factored in. We also had a waitress inside our spacious room at all times.
It’s very unfortunate the food was not really good. Under normal circumstances, I would give the food 3 stars for a pass, but the 8lb crab was pretty small. The 8lb lobster was small.
We actually talked to the manager about this and he said the lobster was no 8lbs as advertised, it was 6.8lbs plus 1.2lbs, for a total of 8lbs..
We made the same complaint about the 8lb crab, and the manager came back said this crab was in fact less than 8lbs… and the manager told us the crab was 7.8lbs.
Regardless how big the king crab was, the more important thing is it didn’t taste like a satisfying 8lb crab… the legs were in fact skinny, as you can see in the pictures.
Maybe it was the way it was cut?
This feeling is something they can definitely improve on. The difference in satisfaction is like eating a 1inch steak versus a 1/2inch steak. It just doesn’t taste the same.
The green bass on the English menu said steamed, but it came out fried. The manager didn’t even believe us when we told him about the menu.
Something else, which kinda started the night off with bad vibes, the advertised “steamed soup” or “clear-steam soup” was just an advertisement, but the real thing.
The froi gras Wagyu fried rice had no wok-flavour at all.
Good things to at about the experience
The steam eel was delicious! steamed perfectly!
Presentation of all the appetizers and main dishes were superb! The presentation of the sashimi platter was very memorable.
The sweet and sour pork was really delicious (additional order) the pineapple in that dish were really tasty! They don’t just use canned pineapple
The fruit platter at the end of the night was also beyond what you would normally see. The knife skills and presentation skills did stand out!
The service throughout the night was great. They will have every type of alcoholic glass and canteen available. There is no cork fee!
The karaoke system with 4 speakers was great!
I mean… all in all, as a group, would we return here, probably not.
But this would be a great place to take clients for dinner! The service, the decor, the VIP room, the presentation, all worth the money they charge.
Unfortunately we came for a king crab dining experience and the main event just didn’t deserve a...
Read moreThree of us showed up at 1:00pm on a Friday afternoon to try their Dim Sum. The waitress offered us to sit inside a room with a small table instead of the dinning hall to avoid the wait. We agreed and follow her to the the big party room with a big round table that can fit 20 people. However, we were offered to the small serving table at the corner that can fit just the three of us. We ordered some Dim Sum that were recommended on the menu, as well as some special dishes. In the meantime, a waitress was plating the large table in the room making a loud noise :(. The food arrived almost the same time and the waitress simply put them on our small table without leaving any space for our cups and bowls. I had to express my unpleasantness explicitly to the waitress to get them bring over a serving cart for the porridge, and also changed the large serving plates for two dishes that could not fit our small table. The restaurant changed one of our ordered dish without letting us know. I had to ask them why the order was changed before they explained the dish had already been sold out. This was unacceptable for any restaurant. They should have asked us before replacing the dish with another one. The tea was tasteless and lukewarm. BBQ pork bun was sticky and oily, as the BBQ pork was hardly noticeable (sliced too thin!). Mushroom and "truffle" steam dumplings had no trace of truffle aroma. Steam fish balls with watercress was so bland with no seasonings. Porridge was tasteless with subpar ingredients. The food standard was nothing close to any regular Cantonese Dim Sum restaurant. Furthermore, the waitresses were not trained properly. They interrupted us while we are eating to change the plates. We had Dim Sums on or plates and the waitress simply used our serving chopsticks to bring our food to the new plates. There was simply no space on our table and they had to move our food on the plate. I did not enjoy this type of service that give us pressure when we are enjoying the food (actually not enjoyable at all). It was not necessary to change plates but just a gesture to justify they have "good" service for a better gratuity. At the end, we were left behind for a long time (20 minutes) after we asked for the bill. I had to go outside the party room to notify the waitresses (they just stood in the corridor chatting) that we had been waiting here for a long time for the bill. In the meantime, another waitress come from the other entrance and said: "Oh! they still have not checked you guys out?" ... I was speechless... This type of service and food quality with such an aggressive pricing would chase away customers. May be their target customers are people that would spend thousands of dollars for seafood dinner but not small potatoes who appreciate restaurants that paid attention to details in...
Read moreThe feedback is from dinner experience. The food quality is generally good. Not too greasy. It would be even better if there is less oil for sautéed veggies or fried rice noodles with beef. The presentation is very nice as well. However, the live lobster wasn’t brought to us after ordering and before it’s cooked. When served on the table, the lobster size appears smaller than the claimed size. The total weight looks fine though. Maybe two smaller lobsters are used in cooking instead of one big lobster but it was not informed at all. It lacks clarity. Not sure if it was done on purpose or they just forgot.
There is no live seafood tank that you can see the live seafood. The sushi bar is behind the cashier counter so you can’t really see what the sushi chef is doing (for both dining experience and for the openness to demonstrate the cleanliness).
The atmosphere is very bad. There are karaoke in the private rooms and people sing very badly and got connected to the speakers in the big dining room so you are forced to hear them sing too.
There are people smoking in the private rooms and the smoke also goes to the big room through the central AC system. It’s not at all family friendly or high end dining experience. It’s more like some entertainment clubs.
Service is terrible. The waitresses are trying to do a good job and very attentive. But it’s clear that they haven’t done any training. They don’t know what they are doing. They don’t know when to replace new plates. They don’t know they need to take away all plates and utensils except tea cups before serving dessert (given it’s marketed as upscale restaurant). One waitress even has manicure done on her hands with shiny “crystals” glued to the nails which causes food safety hazards.
Given that it’s marketed as upscale restaurant but the service and the environment is well below...
