Sadly, the atmosphere and vibe pull this place down. Counter service staff were slow moving with little enthusiasm and somewhat unkempt. It looked like no-one was in charge of quality control. Seriously, go see for yourself, it's like the counter staff don't care.
After putting hot shawarma and fries on the plate, the server started chatting with a loiterer, letting the food get cold, before eventually adding rice and salad. Then the plate sat by the cashier while she chatted with a family, getting colder still. At this point, I was going to be disappointed no matter what. Clean up your act, Shawarma Royale! What a downer!
The food is fine. Just fine. The rice is good, grains well cooked, well seasoned. Probably the best tasting item in my chicken shawarma bowl. The meat is fine, a bit dry and disappointingly not freshly carved from the spit, but rather sliced off half cooked and finished on the griddle. I mean, it's very basic shawarma. Seasoned just like every other shawarma you've eaten, not juicy, lacking in the flavor that comes from being roasted to completion on the spit. Super whatever. The toum / garlic sauce likewise was nothing special.
If, like me, you were hoping for a tastier alternative to Osmow's after their quality drop, you'll be disappointed. Osmow's still has better seasoned chicken and miles better sauce.
There's really no reason to eat here over another chain like Ali Baba or even Osmow's or Halal Guys (technically gyros). Better shawarma at Shawarma Queen, and miles better at 3 Brothers Shawarma. Better still, go to Flaming Stove at Davisville for true shawarma, cooked on the spit and carved, NEVER finished on the grill, and served hot, dripping juices and fat.
It's disappointing to have to write such a review. I was hoping for a new player in the Toronto shawarma game, but this was a letdown. The food was fine, but dragged down by the service and vibe. If they can sharpen up their service, it might be worth it. But you only get one chance to make a first impression, and they...

Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at Shawarma Royale for a while now, and it’s one of my go-to spots for amazing beef shawarma. The flavor is always spot-on—tender, perfectly seasoned, and absolutely delicious. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into the food, and I appreciate that consistency.
That said, I’ve noticed something during my visits that I think management should be aware of. In evening there’s a girl who is usually at the cash register and a man with tattoos and earrings who are often quite touchy and affectionate with each other while on the job. I’ve seen this happen multiple times, and it feels unprofessional, especially in a workplace setting. While I understand that work relationships can happen, these interactions should really be kept private and not so visible to customers.
I’m sharing this feedback because I genuinely love this place and want it to maintain the welcoming, professional vibe that makes it such a great spot. I hope management can address this respectfully to ensure the environment stays comfortable for everyone.
PS: I don’t mean to be overly critical, but addressing this will definitely improve the overall experience for customers who come here for the great food and service. Thank you for the amazing meals—I’ll definitely keep...
