Here comes my first Google comment. Please don't get my one-star rating wrong, actually I don't wanna give any star. Horrible taste of the food there. The soup was like a bowl of failed chemical solution. I had no idea what I was drinking at all. Not to be offensive, but I really wonder how come others with normal taste buds could bear such soup and even gave 5 stars. Well, this was just the beginning. After the first sip of the soup, I decided to fill hunger asap and go. I ordered fish maw chicken noodles, and I got a drumette-like chicken leg and 4 tiny pcs of sliced fish maw, plus plenty of thin-like-hair veggie ingredients, then the resto got my $20+. To be fair, compared the size and amount of fish maw with that of the bean sprouts in the bowl, I sincerely suggest the resto to rename the dish as "bean sprout gold soup" instead of the current name to manage naive customer (aka me)s' expectations. Though bean sprouts were also overcooked and pretty scarce there, at least they did look more distinctive then the sneaky fish maw slices - I nearly missed them if I didn't do a thorough blanket search in the bowl. I advise people who had never been to Yunnan not to try this resto - Yunnan is such a great place with good food and I am 100% sure this restaurant got nothing to do with Yunnan rice vermicelli. For people who'd been to Yunnan, this resto would definitely disappoint or disgust you. Well, maybe the one star should go to the store nearby, big thanks for...

I was excited to try Shi Miao Dao because they had a larger non-spicy noodle menu than YunShang. I got the pork stomach and chicken noodle soup. The soup actually had a nice medicinal flavour and the cook on the chicken was goods. However, the noodles were over cooked. The pot it comes in does not stay hot for long. The quality of the assorted ingredients seemed lower (cheaper spam and fish cake). I was also annoyed that they serve it with all the topping already put in by them, as I like to keep the minced meat sauce and corn out of my soup so I can eat it slowly.
Also, there is a note at the bottom of the menu that says noodles refills are free, but cost $1 if sharing. Sharing is not a defined term so I don’t really know what that means.
The service was also terrible. The place was empty, but they never check on you or ask if you need anything. Instead they were just hanging out at the bar. Someone came in at some point and a staff member went to the back to bring her some frozen lamb racks. It was clearly a personal transaction.
I doubt I would...
Read moreToronto temperature has been pretty good for Autumn lately. One night, I walked in Shi Miao Dao because 1) menu looked good and 2) all the other noodle places had a long wait. And I was glad! I made the right choice.
Shi Miao Dao actually means "here in 10 sec" in Chinese. Although our orders didn't arrive 10 secs right after, I admit the food was in front of us in less than 5mins.
I ordered the House Special Malay Laksa Rice Noodle Soup and also got to try the Original Crossing Bridge Rice Noodle Soup. The Malay Laksa flavour was nice and the spice did hit me, but it wasn't too spicy given I can't take too much spice anyway. The Original also tasted warm and soothing. It had more flavour than other places I've been. As for the ingredients mixed in, it was a nice balance of meat and veggies. Free refills on noodles too.
The staff speaks Mandarin but very comfortable and swift with orders in English. Lastly, I just love their decor - wooden interiors with two pointillism-like large wall arts. They are gorgeous.
I would visit again for their noodles, especially...
