Sooo disappointed. The death of most restaurants is when the owner’s not there and this place is in danger of succumbing to the same fate. Ive been here numerous times & whenever the owner’s there its quite good. But ive only been there twice when owner was absent & both times serious issues. Couple of months ago i went at 1:35 on a Sunday. They say they close at 2, but when i got there they were putting the tables up & wouldnt serve me. I told them i could order and have it eaten way before two but they were in such a hurry to leave they refused me. Then today, i ordered the breakfast poutine (which ive had probably a dozen times) and the cook didnt know how to make it!? it came out completely wrong. The sauce is served under the eggs so it melts the cheese, but this had sauce dumped all over the top of it & who knows what underneath ( i took pictures) i pointed out to the waitress that it was wrong, (she didnt even notice) Rather than immeditaly say this is wrong, ill get you a brand new one, Her solution was to suggest they dump the top off, then mix part of the old order with a new top..?! Seriously....by that point i had no confidence that either the cook or waitress knew what they were doing...so i left. I have brought at least 6 different people there & referred numerous others...but im starting to lose confidence...i live closeby & would be a shame to see such a hardworking, kind owner lose her customer base because of...
Read moreI am not usually taken to write a review, but today's experience instigated my doing so. I have been to and fully enjoyed the good quality food and exceptional service at Sunnyside Grill on Steeles several times now. Today I invited my brother to share that good experience, with me, which was just that until a couple of young(teens/20's) women(more so one of the two) pierced the atmosphere with their rude impudence about having to wait a few extra minutes for service. The waitress/owner (I'm embarrassed to say that I do not know her name, though she is radiant of smile and energy) had opened today, Boxing Day, with just her and the chef and was managing extremely well. The food was good and hot and service was really Not delayed much. The smiles and greetings were immediate and unpretentious. Perhaps, the young ladies had to wait some minutes extra, but given a bit more patience, they would have been properly attended to, the service restored and they would have been happily satiated with more than ample quantity and quality of food. I felt badly for the owner, who did her best to quiet and appease, with apologies, acceptance and efforts, the torrent of nasty coming from the young lady. If this non-customer should take to the reviews, as she promised, I offer this pre-stated rebuke and praise for the Owner and honour of Sunnyside...
Read moreDecent food. I felt the place lacked the magic touch of hospitality and warmth. Loud electronic music blaring in the store. Staff were kind of preoccupied. I had to ask for a menu, and come to the cash to pay. Tvs were off. Small cup of water, that wasnt refilled. Hard chairs, too many windows, and too bright, on a main road. Basically everything about the vibe kept feeling like i was rushed to leave. No other customers were there, other than a large party that moved into a reserved section as i was leaving. The place was clean, the staff looked happy talking among themselves, and i felt like i didnt belong. I felt awkward sitting there, not comfortable. No one even tried to make small talk or make me feel welcome. Other than my own personal discomfort, not much wrong with the place. Decent food, clean tables. Theres a feeling of sterility, like a hospital where the lights are too bright and the place is too organized. Maybe on other days this place slows the pace and gives a feeling of warmth to their customers, but i didnt get that feeling today. Especially with the electronic music blaring the entire time i was there. First time ive been here, and i probably wont be doing dine-in again here, just wasnt the...
