It was raining outside and I and husband were two days old to the city. We were in the neighborhood and decided to grab some Korean. He had been meaning to try it for a while, I am a Korean food junkie. Having been here before I really liked it, so we decided to stick to eating here and not being very experimental. It's a small family run Korean business as are most in the neighborhood. There is not much to the ambience and the service is done by the family as well. It is a well structured menu with a choice of sides, soup and noodles, rice in stone pot etc. Our order were
KIMCHI SEAFOOD PANCAKE (13.99) With morsels of squid and green onion, this was a delight to chew on. For two people with rather small appetites this was a task to finish. Lovely flavors hit you with the first bite and you want to keep eating it. A must try.
PORK BONE BROTH (11.99) : It is their speciality item and although husband isn't comfortable eating bones on meat, he decided to give it a try. And was glad he did, the meat slid of the bone into the broth. The broth had mung beans, napa cabbage, other veggies but primarily a lot of well cooked pork. It was so good, now wonder it is their speciality item.
The lovely sight of the Banchan had the husband excited like a child and he tried all of it, like a snack in the broth with the pancakes. There was Sweet potato, seaweed, Bean sprouts, kimchi and rice. He loved all of it and the food and was happy as a lark. We loved the food here and is highly recommended, weekends get very busy and you may have to wait for a table, weekdays are usually easier to get to your food. A heads up it's a cash only place so be ready to shell that out. At around 26 bucks for two people and the portion sizes it is slightly on the expensive side. It is for days you want to celebrate a small achievement and have the money too!! The food however is superb and definitely worth...

If you’re on the hunt for a hearty Korean barbecue experience without breaking the bank, Sunrise House might just be your next go-to. Tucked into a quieter corner of the neighborhood, this small, long-standing restaurant may not have the flash of its newer, more polished competitors, but what it lacks in glitz, it makes up for in affordability and promise.
The real star of the menu is the beef ribs barbecue – tender, flavorful, and grilled to smoky perfection. It’s a dish that truly holds its own against what you’ll find in fancier spots nearby, and at a noticeably lower price. In a time when many Korean joints are leaning heavily into upscale vibes and upscale prices, Sunrise House keeps it real – and much more budget-friendly.
However, it’s not without its shortcomings. The side dishes – a staple of any Korean meal – fall a bit flat. They’re neither particularly tasty nor visually appealing, and could definitely use some love in both presentation and flavor. The overall ambience also leaves much to be desired. The space feels dated, with worn-out furniture, faded paint, and a restroom that’s long overdue for a serious upgrade.
Still, there’s a certain charm in its humble longevity. Sunrise House has been serving the community longer than many of the trendy establishments that now surround it, and it shows in its no-nonsense approach to food and service. With some renovation and culinary refinement, this place has the potential to rise and match – if not surpass – its newer rivals.
Verdict: Come for the beef ribs and the budget-friendly prices. Stay if you appreciate no-frills dining with potential. But don’t expect modern interiors or standout side dishes – at...
Read more5/5 for the food here. Big portions, reasonable prices and the service was quick. Highly recommend the gamjatang, the portions were gigantic and I couldn’t finish my meal.
Service on the other hand, the waitress was incredibly rude. I did not like the attitude she gave to my friends and I:
my friend asked for a refill of the starting apps and she made a snarky comment “you’re not even finished, I’ll refill them when you’re done”. Mind you, there were only two pieces of kimchi and a few bean sprouts left on those dishes. She could have just went about to refill without being difficult and passive aggressive. -it was 10:49pm, they close at 11pm on Sundays. There were three other tables still eating. I was in the middle of telling my friends a story and the same waitress yelled across the restaurant: “EXCUSE ME, WE CLOSE AT 11PM TODAY” as if my table was the only reason from holding her back in closing. We were understanding so, we finished our food quickly and lined up to cash out. -When we were cashing out, she became frustrated because there were 8 of us paying. Knowing the waitress was already anxious in closing, my husband had his credit card ready to tap but for some reason, the waitress thought that was a sign of rushing her in getting a receipt and she proceeded to say: “Can you give me a minute?!”.
Food was great but will not come again because of the service. My group was not difficult to deal with, I understand it was end of the day but we didn’t deserve the waitress’ attitude. Go to Jin Dal Lae instead, just...
