Ordered takeout sushi from here on the weekend due to some amazing reviews. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Got two orders of the sashimi appetizer, spicy salmon roll, tatsu aburi roll and a dragon roll. First thing Ill say is they didn't provide any chopsticks or soya sauce. Right off the bat this kinda killed my experience as without soya sauce sushi and sashimi isnt the same. The miso soup was actually delicious. Possibly the best miso soup I've had in a while. Sadly that's where the good parts ended. The sashimi was average and parts of it were still a bit frozen. The rolls all basically stuck together then fell apart which is always a sign of poor sushi to me as you end up eating pieces of sushi as opposed to a slice of the roll. Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Aburi Salmon Dragon 7.5/10 $17 - Topped with thinly sliced fatty salmon and mayo, which is then torched. Brings out the fragrant salmon flavours and mayo adds some more creaminess and slight tang to balance it. Interior filling was shrimp tempura, yam tempura, cucumbers, crab meat and avocado. Filling was 50% tempura batter though, and provided a slightly crisp, oily fragrance but was quite heavy and filling. The rice proportions are acceptable, but edging towards the rice heavy side. Seaweed was fragrant and rice was marinated fine.

We had Aburi Salmon Dragon before (my favorite so far) but this time we decided to try something new for my boss's farewell party and and this did not disappoint us at all - Sashimi Sushi Roll Tray B. We also ordered a tempura and all were super yummy! The sushi rolls here are high-quality with great ingredients. Any roll with the rice is fantastic, rice is soft enough, not too sticky not too dry. Plus the sushi and sashimi at this place are not pricey as I thought. You can feed your belly with just $20 or so. Highly recommended!

Tatsu Sushi, tucked away on Queen Street West, is a hidden gem that captures the essence of a small, intimate sushi joint. With just two tables, this spot is ideal for those seeking a cozy, unassuming dining experience, but takeout may be your best bet due to limited seating.

What truly sets Tatsu Sushi apart are its daily specials. I recently had the pleasure of indulging in their triple salmon combo, a culinary masterpiece that left me in awe. This delectable dish not only showcased their expertise but also came with a delightful side of salad and miso soup.

The triple salmon combo was a symphony of flavors – the freshness of the salmon, whether raw or seared, was unparalleled. Each bite was a harmonious blend of textures and tastes that danced on my palate. The accompanying salad was crisp and refreshing, and the miso soup was warm and comforting, making it the perfect accompaniment to the sushi.

While the limited seating may pose a challenge for dining in, the quality and taste of the food at Tatsu Sushi more than compensate for it. If you're a sushi aficionado, do yourself a favor and order their daily specials for a truly exceptional experience. Tatsu Sushi is a testament to the fact that great things often come in...

Disappointing

I ordered the large party platter (sashimi, sushi, maki) and was genuinely confused as to why this place has received such stellar reviews online. The sushi here was decidedly below average.

The fish was thin and flavourless. Clearly not good quality. I’ve had MUCH fresher fish from cheaper sushi places downtown. The sushi rice was also bland and the texture wasn’t great (slightly undercooked).

The soy sauce, on the other hand, was EXTREMELY salty. And I am not usually picky about my soy sauce. You could immediately tell that this was not sushi soy sauce, which is fine, but when you can’t dip your sushi in the soy sauce without it overtaking the entire thing and making it too salty to eat, you know there’s a problem.

The rolls were big, which was nice, but I didn’t like the addition of yam tempura to every single roll. It felt like a filler, and also took away from flavour of the already flavourless fish on top.

I would not recommend and would not order again. I took the time to post this review because looking at the other reviews was...

I would not even give 1 star to this sushi restaurant. Very poor customer service in addition to the quality of food deterioration. When it first opened, they would offer neighbourhood discount, which they have now stopped (and that is absolutely alright), but you would think at least their quality of food and customer service would remain as exceptional as it was at one point but unfortunately with change of staff, it has only gone from bad to worse. They give the tiniest bit of wasabi and want to always charge for soy sauce and wasabi, when it was very little to begin with that was given with the order. But the worst, they have absolutely zero community/neighbourly spirit…and I would buy lunch from here at least twice a week quite regularly. Even though I have had now have more than a couple poor experiences, I have given them several chances. Not supporting this...
