Learn to talk to customers. The bartender was super rude and basically kicked us out of the place. I was shocked. And I work in restaurant business and I can say this was out of control. I will never be back. Edit: It would be nice if you could provide an e-mail so I can send “more context”, but I’ll edit my original review, maybe this works. So my boyfriend came to your bar yesterday around 12 pm, I was in the car waiting for him to find a spot. His friends were there. He entered the bar, never been there before, and was trying to figure out where to sit. He was standing next to the bar for not even a minute when the bartender come to him and says: “you can stay here, there’s no room”. That’s it. He moved to another spot at the bar, still just trying to figure out where to sit, the bartender comes and says that he can’t stay there. I’m sorry, I work in restaurant industry and for me that is unacceptable. Customer service 101: the bartender could ask”hi, are you here with friends? Are you waiting for someone? Can I help you?”. Something like that. But no, just “get out” attitude. Ok. My boyfriend finally goes to his friends and tells them what happened and that the bartender is rude and all of that. The bartender comes to the table and starts picking up a fight withmy boyfriend saying:” what, are you trying to run this place or what? I’ve been here for 20 years…” and more stuff like that. For no reason at all! All he should do is to ASK the customer how can the place acomodate him! Thats is basic customer service. At this point obviously the customer is angry. And like all of that wasn’t enough, the bartender is like “what, are you calming down now or what?” I don’t know if I have to say how frustrating is that. A normal person would understand not to talk like that. You would probably ask why my boyfriend didn’t ask for a manager. He was so angry that he didn’t want to stay for one more minute in the bar. And even now he still doesn’t want to write this review, but I want to because I am a restaurant worker and I care about stuff like this. There’s more: after my boyfriend left, his friend texted him what the bartender said after he left: “I would apologize to him if he would calm down” So let me get this straight: you don’t offer any help to the customer, you don’t ask him anything, you tell him he can’t sit in any place of the bar and still don’t give him any options, you go after him when he is talking to his friends, you make him angry and after all that you tell him to “calm down”. I have nothing...

Disappointing! Second time coming back to The Queen & Beaver.

We were sat really quickly in the dinning room downstairs. The atmosphere of the pub is beautiful. Classic, old-school British pub. Initial service was good, but quickly disappeared once we ordered.

We got the Fish n Chips, Full English, tea, and coffee. Everything came out really quickly. The Fish n Chips are probably one of the best in Toronto. Cooked well and a nice, big piece of fish.

The Full English is another story. The fried bread was the highlight, which is embarrassing to say the least. The mushroom looked and tasted like leather. The tomato looked like it came straight from a can and you get one singular tomato (I know times are tough, but come on). Overall, would not recommend this dish - way better places for breakfast.

Now, the service. Our server was Taylor. Initially, she greeted us quickly and promptly took our orders, then she never came back. With our food, no condiments, salt/pepper, etc. were brought and we were constantly trying to get the attention of ANY staff to bring them. Our server never came back to even ask if the food was okay, if we needed condiments, or even more tea/coffee.

Once we finished, we waited 40 minutes to get the bill (and longer to even pay). We sat trying to grab a member of staff and finally got the hostess to bring the bill. She never returned with the machine. We waited an additional 20 minutes for the machine. When the hostess finally came back, she asked if we needed anything else. We said, "yes, the machine to pay." She responded, "I thought you already paid." It seemed the hostess had to take over for the waitress and there was a complete miscommunication from all parties. Leaving everyone confused including us.

Honestly, really good potential. Improve your food (and give bigger plates, so the food/utensils aren't falling on the table) and improve service. Not sure if was an off day, but truly disappointing service as I have been here before and it wasn't like this. I hope management reads this and provides proper training to ensure alignment...

Go for the drinks stay away from the food...

I went to the Q&B with high expectation based on previous reviews... Once on site the pub atmosphere... The friendly staff that greeted me.. All seems in proper order...

After a quick glance at the menu I decided to settle for the Bangers & mash after what's more of a staple of pub fare then that...

That's where things went awfully wrong...

What was presented to me as a dish looked so sad that even the Ol Yeller story had an happier ending this.

The sausage tried very hard to save the face of this time honnored dish... With no prevail. They were insipid and undercook. So bad I had to check twice if they were even hot at theyr center.... And there was no saving grace form the more then dubious gravy also lacking in the flavor departememt. Few fried oignons were lost amid it... The last of theyr kind im sure. Now what about the mash.... Well it was some paste of indifinite texture or once again taste... Nope barely a scoop full to prop that farce of a dish.

The only star in my saga and review here was the cider from Duxington... That was perfect.... Light crisp flavorful hard to mess up since it came in a can.

To had the insult to the injury meanwhile I was desperately looking for a glimpse of flavor in my dish... One of the waitress nonchalantly placed on my table the bill for the other table of 3 across from me... You really know how to make a gent felt welcome there...after a muttered and barely convincing "I'm sorry" the bill was retracted.

So in retrospect.... Stay for the drink bring... Don't bother with the food... All will...

I loved the vibes at this place! The rustic, old-world charm was exactly what I expected—such a cozy, inviting atmosphere. It wasn’t too busy when I visited on a Sunday at 3 PM, which made for a relaxed dining experience. One thing that really caught my eye in the reviews was the use of purple cabbage. It looked so vibrant and fresh on the plate, and I couldn’t wait to see it for myself. I also noticed that the place didn’t have the best food pictures in the reviews, but I’m so glad I took a chance because the Sunday roast looked incredible. When the food arrived, it came quickly, and everything was beautifully presented. The meat was cooked perfectly medium-rare, just how I like it—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The gravy complemented the meat so well, adding that rich depth. The veggies were spot on—cooked to perfection, not too soft or too firm, and seasoned just right. The Yorkshire pudding was delicious, with the perfect balance of crispiness on the outside and softness inside, though it was a little more eggy than I prefer. For three of us, the total came to $130, which I thought was very reasonable considering we had three Sunday roasts and two mimosas. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend for a relaxed Sunday meal with great food and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

Follow @bredgyeats for more food! The Sunday special truly lives up to its name, making me forget about all the woes and responsibilities for Monday. This feast is a beautifully roasted beef striploin, cooked to an ultra tender and juicy medium rare and drowned in a red wine gravy made from the beef drippings, for a richer, slightly sweet addition to the beef. My first time having Yorkshire pudding has me immediately hooked. The crisp exterior contrasts the airy and fluffy interior, with a fragrant eggy aroma and lots of surface area to soak up the gravy. Each bite was always so exciting from the sweet parsnip puree, roasted potatoes, honeyed carrots, and braised cabbage, a refreshingly sweet palate cleanser. Also couldn't skip the scotch egg with piccalilli, which is also my first time with it. It has a gentle acidity to balance the sweet honey mustard, with cauliflower, pepper and shallots inside that balance the savory taste of the scotch egg. The crust on the scotch egg is exquisite, with a satisfyingly crispy texture and a moist porky bite mixed with fennel seeds, black pepper and other spices that are elevated by the jammy richness of the egg yolk.
