Overall the experience was lackluster although, the staff was pleasant. We were a group of 4 who decided on doing the FRIGHT NIGHT room. To start we were greeted by a member of staff at the door which was welcoming and they were helpful. We paid $35/person and having tried other escape rooms such as Escape Manor, or Omescape at a similar price point we were expecting to be immersed in an incredible story and experience. But we received nothing but disappointment.
Firstly the rules and "backstory" were explained in a video we watched on a tablet in the lobby. Now rules were definitely explained in the video, but backstory was minimal to non-existent. For the same price point other escape rooms had an employee "roleplay" a character or explain the rules and backstory to the group in an entertaining form, with or without visual aids. After a lady led us to the room and all she said about the back story was "Hannibal" you guys know Hannibal right? To be fair she was quite nice.
Now the escape room itself and the puzzles. Our group had 3 people who had played escape rooms before and one who hadn't. Most of the puzzles were very abstract and unusual without much connection to the backstory, and it just felt like a bunch of puzzles in a decorated room. We felt like some of the puzzles were a little too out there, lots of puzzles involved physically touching objects in specific spots or doing counter-intuitive things like opening a freezer by touching a spot of blood or repeatedly touching a stove to solve a puzzle, or sitting down randomly to activate a puzzle. There was only a few locks, none of which were directional, letter locks, or more than 3 digit padlocks. As per the overall ambiance and decor, it was alright but the jump scares weren't really scary and of which there was only 1-2, a lot of the props were of poor quality compared to the mentioned escape rooms eg, plastic/foil knifes instead of dulled knifes or foam knifes, plastic head instead of a molded silicone head or body parts, fake chains instead of real ones. Also there were random hints that are taped on to the wall (not warnings to not do something stupid).
A lot of the other reviews seem to be people trying an escape room for the first time and its great that they enjoyed it, but when we asked our friend if he liked his first escape room it was evident he did not particularly because it didn't feel scary, nor were the problems satisfying to solve.
In summary, perhaps these escape rooms are okay but for the price point you definitely want to consider Escape Manor which is also in downtown for a more immersive and intuitive problem solving experience.
TL:DR - Lackluster escape room for puzzles and story, welcoming staff, go to Escape Manor for a better experience at the same price point or Omescape in...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to visit Enigma Escape Room, and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. As an avid escape room enthusiast, I was excited to try out this establishment, but it left me feeling underwhelmed and disappointed.
First and foremost, one of the biggest drawbacks of Enigma Escape Room was the lack of a cohesive story or immersive environment. When I participate in an escape room, I expect to be fully immersed in a captivating narrative that adds excitement and purpose to the puzzles. However, at Enigma Escape Room, the puzzles felt disjointed and unrelated, leaving me puzzled as to their significance within the overall experience. The lack of attention to storytelling and immersion significantly diminished the enjoyment factor.
Moreover, the quality of the puzzles themselves was quite lacklustre. The challenges lacked creativity and originality, and some seemed hastily put together without much thought or consideration. I have visited numerous escape rooms in the past, and I must say that the puzzles at Enigma Escape Room paled in comparison to those offered by their competitors. It felt like they were merely going through the motions rather than striving to provide an engaging and mind-bending experience.
Another aspect that left a sour taste was the pricing. Considering the underwhelming quality of the escape room, the cost seemed unjustifiably high. There are other escape rooms in the area that offer far superior experiences at a similar or even lower price point. It felt like a missed opportunity to provide good value for money, and I left feeling dissatisfied with the overall investment.
Lastly, I would like to mention that the staff at Enigma Escape Room were polite and helpful, which was a small positive aspect of the visit. However, friendly service alone cannot compensate for the lack of creativity, coherence, and immersive elements that are essential to an enjoyable escape room experience.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend Enigma Escape Room based on my recent visit. The absence of a compelling story, lacklustre puzzles, and high pricing in comparison to competitors make it difficult to justify the choice of this establishment over other options available in the area. I hope that the management takes these points into consideration and works towards improving the overall quality of their escape room to provide a more satisfying experience for...
Read moreCame here with a group of 5 to celebrate my birthday. I advised that 2 of them were going to show up late and staff advised over the phone and in person that it’s fine for them to show up anytime as long we start on time. So I texted my late friends about that; one came 15 mins late and the other closer to maybe 30-40 mins late. I was then charged the rest of the payment for 5 players. During the game, I was wondering where my other friend was, I couldn’t check up on her because we had to lock up our phones. Once we escaped, I see my friend and asked if she just got here and she said that when she arrived, they refused to let her in because there was no point of her joining when there wouldn’t be enough time left in the game. Which didn’t make sense to me considering how we started the game late and was granted extra time. That made me upset since they had told me, it’s okay if my friends showed up anytime as long as we started.
Because of that they offered a refund for her, which means I will only be charged for 4 players. I accepted that refund for the 1 player. 5 mins later, the same staff member who gave me the refund tells me that I paid for 4 players initially and she just refunded me 1 player which means I paid for 3 players when I should’ve paid for 4 players. So she was requesting that I pay them back for 1 player since she claims to “accidentally” refund me. I was very confused and visibly annoyed after what happened. None of it made sense to me, the fact that I remember being charged for the rest of my payment for 5 players since 4 of us were in the room and only 1 person was denied entry for being too late. The staff member encouraged me to double check my statements and email invoice from when I first paid the deposit and I’m glad I did, this proved how she was wrong. After a few mins of going back and forth, she realized that she made a mistake and that I did initially pay for 5 players and was granted the refund for 1 player since she denied my friend entry.
After this terrible service, I will never come back and I don’t recommend to anyone. There are better escape...
