Food is very over priced for the quality. Fusion food should be taking inspirations or techniques from other cuisines to enhance the base cuisine (Vietnamese in this case). I felt most of the dishes werenât better than the traditional versions. The croquette was good but it did not feel like Vietnamese food. The turnip cake was too tough - I thought I was chewing on deep fried firm tofu at first. The flavour was alright. The dumplings have a spongy texture for the shell which wasnât a good mouth feel. The sauce had a weird after taste so I did not like the dumplings very much. The pho was pretty good but lacked vegetables like bean sprouts and they did not give any sauces. The broth was too salty though. The Vietnamese coffee wasnât good. It had a weird taste which I couldnât pinpoint. My friend felt the same way about the coffee. Lastly, the price feels ridiculous for the portion and quality. I can get a bigger bowl of pho at all of the other Vietnamese restaurant Iâve been to in Toronto and GTA for the same price and it would taste better than this place.
Update: I took a couple friends with me to give Vit Beo another chance and also reached out to the owner, as per their response to their original review. They never responded to my email. I did not tell these friends prior to going about my negative experience because I did not want them to be biased and I also wanted a second opinion in case my original experience was wrong. They felt the food was not bad but very pricey for what we got. I felt the food was much better than the first time and was overall good but also pricey for what we got. Service was abysmal though. We didnât get water and had to ask. No water refills. The place did not have knives. Forks they gave us were dirty. And the icing on top was the COCKROACH that landed on my friendâs hand from the ceiling. Some girls were sitting beside us and they saw too and were also very disturbed. Will never go back.    Read moreIm an optimist so Ill give a 2, but it was reallly hard for me to make it a 2.
I looked forward to the Vit Beo experience, but sadly this was not the experience I wanted.
As we entered to sit down, we werenât greeted with a hello but rather a list of rules that we had to follow
âyou cant sit until you orderâ We were about to.
âJust letting you know if somebody orders ahead of you they have priorityâ Okay no problem. Weâre gonna order.
After we placed our order, we went to go sit down with our friend and our 2 Y/o daughter.
I stood over there kiosk to see what else was on the menu out of curiosity and the gentleman in glasses says âare you with them? Help me understand whats going on hereâ
I didnt say anything prior and told him we had ordered and was thinking about some other dishes that we wanted to try.
The table was dirty and one of the workers prepared food using the same gloves I saw him use to clean dishes/ wipe tables.
No worries - I used the baby wipes to clean their table and put the dirty wipes to our side of the table.
The worker in glasses comes and passively complains: âOKAY. Cool baby wipesâ just loud enough for us to hear. Snatched the used baby wipes off the table. Its not like we had the wipes lying around. We had it collected so that I can clean it up later.
Their food was okay too.
Pho was basic and nothing too special. Portion was slightly small for $15
Brisket croquettes were good though and their fried chicken bahn mi was actually decent.
Turnips were not. Rubbery, dry and tasteless.
All in all, despite the fact that food was 3/5, the poor, rude service and stuck up attitude was overall a big turn off. The feeling I got was that they were the âshitâ and showed no sense of hospitality or humility. My take though.
Canât see myself going here again. And thats coming from a guy who eats pho at least...
Read moreWe basically tried almost every dish that was on the signage menu at Vit Beo, a new place in the area. This place isn't big but cozy, there are high stool chairs around the small space, some facing the street windows and some facing the kitchen. It's a place you expect to share tables with others, and not recommend any more than 4 people. I do like set up as you can see the hardworking chefs cooking your food. 4 more stools at the back exactly sitting where the chef prepared the food. It's vietnamese fusion, good authentic food. There are some dishes that I never tried before. It's not the typical big portion but more like tapas size, so if you are super hungry, you either have to order lots of food or go somewhere else, but this is good spot for peeps to order and share. We ordered a bunch of stuff and nimble and share, it was a good collective choice. They also open late night til 2:00 am which is a big plus after clubbing or just wanted to winddown. Around this area, there aren't alot of asian food so this new Vit Beo is a welcome sight. And I suggest you order a few dish and then go to pubs around the area to drink, this is defintiely not a spot that you stay for a long time. Chef David and his staff are friendly and courteous, they will ask if everything ok and how's the food, that's a nice touch. Personally, I recommend the #2 Banh Xeo, which is crispy rice crepe with pork belly and prawns, they hand make it when you order, so it's fresh. I also like the #7Bo Luc Lac, which is seared beef with watercress, so the meat, so tender and juicy. And #3 is my fav. the Goi Bap Chuoi, the seared chicken thigh and bean sprout, so good! Highly...
