✨ Warm, charming, and unmistakably made with love — XO Bisous is the kind of café that feels like it’s always been part of your weekend ritual, even if it’s your first time through the door. We stopped by for brunch and found ourselves wrapped in the kind of comfort only a French-inspired café can offer. The Vegan Veggie on Focaccia was a standout — layers of roasted eggplant, charred tomato, and zucchini tucked into pillowy focaccia, brightened with a punchy pesto. (The non-vegan option comes with goat cheese, if you’re craving a little creamy richness). The Pizza Bun was the kind of snack you’d sneak from the kitchen as a kid — soft, saucy, just the right amount of indulgent. And the Eggs Benny? Perfectly poached, filling, with a hollandaise so silky it could’ve passed for Paris, along with a green salad that tempted the veggie-lover in me. We couldn’t leave without dessert. The chocolate and cherry-flavoured shortbread was buttery and tender, with a delicate crumb that practically melted on the tongue, making it a perfect sweet finish to our meal. I'm primarily reviewing the quality of the pastries, which was atrocious. I really don't write many reviews and I don't like writing negative reviews of small businesses, but this was just a terrible experience and unacceptable. Even still, I regret to have to write this review of a small business, but we were just shocked at the terrible quality. Despite the high price of their baked goods, not one was even remotely good. I spent almost $30 and I regret it. There were problems with everything my family and I tried, but I'll mention two. The croissant was dense, thick, and dry, instead of light, flaky, and buttery. It was also flavourless and tasted stale. The chausson aux pommes was the worst of all. The filling had little to no flavour and the pastry was barely cooked as you can see from the photos. It was just raw and we threw it out as soon as we realized. We usually go to Fleur du Jour but we wanted to give this business a try and boy do we regret it! I get making a mistake or two here and there but we had 5 different things and they were all terrible. Most of all, not cooking your pastry dough properly when you're a bakery is inexcusable.

I recently recommended a pastry shop I had been collecting to my friends, and we made a special trip to visit it today. Unfortunately, the food left me disappointed. The photo on the left shows what I had during my first visit—the focaccia’s texture was perfect, soft yet firm. Incredibly, today (as shown in the photo on the right), it felt like it had been reheated multiple times, resulting in an overly hard texture. The difference is visibly obvious. When I brought this up to the staff, they did replace it for us, but it turned out to be exactly the same. I also took a closer look at the products through the display case, and the sides of the focaccia clearly looked dry. Overall, today’s food experience was extremely disappointing.

I was really excited to find this cute bakery downtown. I was happy with the breakfast sandwich I had from them.

I pre-ordered and paid 3 mini cakes to be picked up the next day. Upon pick up, the lady at the shop was shocked to hear there was a cake pick up. She said she had been off all week and had no idea that there was an order. After calling a colleague she informed me that 1/3 flavours were not available, no one had called me to let me know this in advance despite giving my name and number when putting the order in. She proceeded to give me three mini cakes that I had seen in the window the day before.

Regardless of the fact that I had pre ordered and prepaid for 3 cakes, nothing was freshly made for me.

I will not...
