The good news is the baked goods are legitimately very good in my opinion. Occasionally, like today, they're worth braving the bad aspects of this bakery.
First issue is the coffee is legitimately terrible. The espresso is bitter and overextracted. If you need to buy coffee here, get a milk drink to cover up the burnt flavour. Better yet, walk across the street to Sticky and get their substantially better coffee.
The second and bigger issue for me is the general unwelcoming attitude I get every time I walk in here. Today as I'm digging through my wallet to get my debit card, past several credit cards which understandably get much more use, the snippy teenager barks at me "WE ONLY TAKE CASH OR DEBIT!" Ma'am, I know. You have five different signs stating as much. That's why I'm searching for my debit card.
I have to really want a croissant to put up with the unwelcoming staff. Every single time I come here, they somehow give me a vibe that I'm inconveniencing them with my presence. Here's hoping some new businesses open up in the area and force Fleur du Jour to get with the times and improve their service. You've got the food down. Now train your staff to treat customers like you yourself would like...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was walking St Clair early one morning and my olfactory senses were piqued. I hadnāt noticed any shop. Later, looking for a good coffee shop on google, I noticed this and was intrigued. I got there just before opening and the door was openā¦the place was empty. My, āhello?ā was answered and from behind emerged the owner⦠clearly the best type of lunatic. Friendly, humble, sincere, open⦠in short, someone who can make it in business only by working really really hard as heās lacking the calculated avarice required to really succeed in our culture. And of course the croissant was as good as I have ever experienced. I tried a plain one and despite my almost complete avoidance of refined carbs especially in the morning I followed it with an almond croissant after asking the late arriving (and cheerfully greeted by the owner) employee what the customer favorite was. Sublime of course. She improved the ambiance with some music that the owner thanked her for choosing⦠Go here to experience how things could be. Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis little pastry shop on St Clair is worthy of legend. Every day they open at around the same time, but it varies a little - itās dependent on the croissants are ready - which varies a little with the weather. They donāt have a close time - they close when they sell out. If you have a bit of time, try the Brietto - itās a croissant toasted with Brie, prosciutto and a cheesy creamy filling, absolutely delicious! In the morning they offer a wide variety of French pastries - from the classic croissant to sweet delights with berries, pears and other delicious fresh fruit. The only reason they donāt have them in the afternoon is because they sell out by then! In the afternoon they have divine mousse cakes in several flavors - the Rocher and the Cassis Vanilla are incredible. We keep coming back not just for the food - the owner and staff are always welcoming and makes us feel at home! Pricing is reasonable, but payment is cash or debit only...
