I left my number for the owner to call me regarding our experience last week, since they haven't called here's my review. We chose Hazzard County for an early dinner after looking at their website online. It says they smoke all their meat, which we love, and their drink prices were reasonable so off we went. We sat on the patio which is charming, with picnic tables and trees. The staff were friendly but very young and inexperienced. We were given food menus but not drink menus, and since they were having difficulty answering questions regarding the selection we just went back to the website for more information. We ordered pints of beer which came out surprisingly short- more than an inch low on both. I chalked it up to an inexperienced bartender, annoying but not a big deal. We tried the pulled pork sandwich "from the smoker"- it tasted exactly the way my pulled pork does, which I braise in the oven, both the flavor and texture are very different when it's smoked. We laughed this off too, it still tasted good and we were hungry so whatever. We decided not to try anything else from Hazzard and I asked for the bill. Our server came back without a bill, just the payment machine, and my husband had already tapped his card before I noticed that the amount was higher than expected. We had been overcharged for everything we ordered, and the bill was about 25% higher than it should have been. Apparently the website isn't accurate for various reasons, so all the drink prices are incorrect by a few dollars, and the food charge was just wrong. Our server quickly became very defensive and hostile over us questioning the inaccuracies, saying "What can I do? I don't own the place". We were so confused by this weird turn of events- she was acting as if this was our fault, and coming up with one excuse after another. Apparently the accurate prices are posted on a little menu inside by the bar, and somehow we should have known to go check that, even though we were sitting on the patio? Anyway she left us sitting there and went over to chat with another table, it was very obvious she was talking about us to them, which was extremely upsetting. I couldn't wait to get out of there but still had to take a very dirty look from our server as I went by, at which point I had had enough and asked for the owner's number, which they refused to give me. We did nothing to deserve this treatment, and all I can say is this is exactly why kids should not be left to run restaurants. Needless to say, we will not be back.
Update- Well, from this bizarre rant I think it's pretty clear where the problem is here. The fish rots from the head down, as they say. We were not rude to anyone, but the fact that the teens you left in charge are saying that isn't really surprising, is it? You could have called me to discuss what happened and I would not have left a review, but you didn't bother. I didn't ask for anyone's "private" number, just a contact number which I was VERY rudely refused. I didn't know about the toonie, my husband didn't mention it, probably because I was upset and didn't feel like talking about what we had just been through and how it had spoiled our day at the lake. As to your online menu, it doesn't state whether the beer is in bottles or pints so how on earth were we to know this? Update your website if it's misleading, or at least offer menus with correct prices. Or don't, and continue setting your untrained staff up to fail, and then upsetting and attacking people for trying to support your business, seems like...
Read moreWe had a decent breakfast at Hazzard County Bar and Grill.
What to expect?
Well, the Hazzard County Bar and Grill is a down-home blue-collar restaurant. Both the staff and the majority of the clientele are year-round locals. If youâre looking for the million-dollar lake house scene this place might not be for you.
The dĂ©cor is Harley-Davidson and classic rock. Itâs dark, but reasonably clean. Though we did have a small problem with flies.
The menu had everything you would expect for breakfast - at a pretty fair price. The quality of the food was perfectly fine and came with good quality ingredients (i.e. my egg sandwich came with real marbled cheddar rather than the processed cheese garbage you would get at McDonalds). While I was completely satisfied with my meal, you have to admit that you have to work pretty hard to screw up breakfast.
The service was pretty slow even when the place was far from busy. If youâre looking for speedy service to send you on your way you might not be very happy. On the other hand, everyone who served us were good salt-of-the-Earth people who made you feel well taken care of.
While Hazzard County Bar and Grill isnât going to get any Michelin stars anytime soon, they had decent food at a...
Read moreI was served a margarita this evening with fruit flies in it, as a fellow service team member/bartender I expect these food and safety violations to be taken seriously but instead I was offered a replacement drink then purposely forgot about. It was not infact Tahin nor a black speck in my drink like the bartender and server had said. I know that if you donât properly cover your bottles every night and someone orders a cocktail from an establishment that does mostly beer sales there is bound to be a fruit fly in something: Own up to it, donât gaslight you patrons and purposely forget to bring them a replacement because you see them as an issue when infact your closing/cleaning procedures are the problem. Nip your bottles when not using /overnight. Awesome bar, cool atmosphere will return just respect...
