Never thought I would give less than three stars for restaurants in Vancouver, but I have to say I am surprisingly disappointed at Brass Fish. I didn’t give one star because the chef did an ok job with the dish. I came here alone around late dinner time. The waitress took about 20 mins to come to the table to take my drink order, and it was not a busy night. There were two waitresses who served my table, one took my order, and the other threw the dish on my table when it came almost 35 mins after my drink. When ordering, I discovered apparently everything on the menu including the roasted salmon, grilled and fried/charred dishes (there were several) were all served cold. Puzzled, I asked what is served warm and it turned out only the fries and sandwiches…I’m sorry (not sorry), I didn’t come to a seeming upscale bar on a Thursday night to eat sandwiches. I ended up ordering a drink and a rice based dish for over $45. The drink looked sad, and the dish had ham (I explicitly told the waitress I do not eat meat). In a city that is famous for its international food scene, and with the price Brass charges, I expected better than embarrassingly rude service and mediocre food.

Great atmosphere, okay service... But the food!? I ordered the fish and chips, supposedly their "signature dish" (I mean the place is called the Brass FISH Tavern), and was sorely disappointed. First, FOR $27, I was expecting the portion size to be MUCH bigger. When it landed on my table, it looked like there was plenty of fish but when I rotated the plate... let's just say I've never seen so much empty space on a plate before. Second, the fish was BLAND and slightly dry. I thought they would have at least seasoned it before dipping it. Also, this might be a minor gripe but c'mon if you're gonna charge me $27 for fish n' chips at least give me halibut and not cod. The salad was meh (and there was little of it) but the frites were very good - nice, thick and actually salted. Finally, there was no tartar sauce. Overall, would NOT recommend this place for fish n' chips despite it being called the "Brass Fish Tavern". You would be better off finding a White Spot.

I love this place so much. I am from out of town and it was my first time visiting this place and I will 100% be back. The vibe is so cool I love the ambience. I did not have a reservation and the place was very busy so I thought for sure there’s no chance I was getting in. But I got a seat at the bar not a problem at all. The bar is super cool. It has a leather top. What? That is so cool. The cocktail list looks great. However, I stuck to my Guinness cause that’s my go to. I also ate some appetizers. The brussels sprouts were OK. Not the best thing in the world but definitely good. The prawn tacos. Were so amazing! The short ribs. Had just the right amount of spice. They were great. The washrooms were down the stairs in the basement. Which made me feel like I was in Europe. This is not a bad thing. The general decor and feel of the place is very old-school Europe, and I kind of dig it. I will definitely be back.

UPDATE: The restaurant was gracious enough to contact me following my review, and have underscored that they will review this situation with their waitstaff so that in the future dietary requests/restrictions are more carefully observed. Based on this, I have adjusted the service from 2 stars to 5 stars.

I had work colleagues in town and booked a reservation for 8. I had asked in advance on the reservation to be seated in a quieter corner but it didn't seem like they accommodated this request (the restaurant wasn't filled to capacity and I saw another party was put in a quieter corner, so it would have been possible). Our server was friendly enough in the beginning but I had a specifically asked if the chicken katsu sandwich had mayo on it and she said no. I explained the reason I asked is that I did not want mayonnaise or any other creamy sauces on it, and she assured me that it had none. When I took my first bite, it clearly had mayonnaise on it. Unfortunately no one came to check up on us for a very long time so I couldn't do much about it without making a big fuss in front of my guests. When she finally came back to remove our dishes, she noticed that I had not eaten my sandwich and asked if I'd like it boxed. I explained that I didn't eat it because of the mayo, and that that's why I had asked her about this when I ordered. She breezily said, "oh!" and simply took the dish away.

If you don't have any special requests or dietary restrictions, I think it's probably fine as a place to meet friends for a relatively inexpensive happy hour. Everyone in my group seemed to enjoy their food well enough. The ambience is nice. But I was completely underwhelmed by the service and attitude about...

I organized a company dinner party at the Brass Fish this past weekend and we had exclusive use of the venue for about 90 people. The food and service were fantastic! The canapes and 3-course plated dinner were delicious. From our previous dinner experiences, usually one course is better than the other but all courses were consistently tasty, nicely portioned and presented. The servers and kitchen staff were very accommodating to those with special food requests due to dietary allergies/restrictions. The servers, bartender, kitchen and management staff were very attentive and efficient. Bravo to the Brass Fish team!

The ambience was cozy with high ceilings. We loved the trees and the seating variety (booths, high top tables, regular tables and couches). It was nice having the 2 floors as people could spread out and have a quieter area upstairs. If you have an older crowd, the stairs can be a challenge to go up and down. The main washrooms are downstairs from the main floor, so there are many stairs. It was good that the restaurant had an accessible washroom on the main floor. The in-house DJ was good, the dance area was small due to the pillars but our group was able to make the space work.

Thank you to Jaclyn, Jombo, Trevor and Sofia for all your help and being on the ball with everything! This was our first big company event since COVID, and the staff at Brass Fish made it a wonderful experience.

The venue is a gem. Great location (close to skytrain, seabus and easy to catch a taxi late at night), ambience and service! We look forward to...

I went there for a private function, so we rented out the top private box area. The atmosphere there is amazing. Reminds me of a cigar lounge in some parts of the lay out. its got a total older executive man's office in one part of the corner. then in the middle, its like ur in someones living room chilling, then there is another area that feels quite modern with some foliage. (look at pictures) Then the last part is tucked behind the modern sitting area, and separated by a wall, is the catering area where food can be placed buffet style. All in all i will have to say, who ever designed the upstairs private room, was a freaking genius! She/he found three different cozy atmospheres that people of all generations (kids excluded) would love and it worked! Alot of people wouldnt notice this tiny detail, but i did. High praises for the designer of that space!! Not only was it functional and brilliantly divided so one "scene" does not interfere with another without u feeling like ur boxed in. The flow of all the "scenes" was great. u can hope from one scene to another or to the catering area all from one pathway. I know im supposed to talk about food, but that private loft needs to be recognized for its design. And because it was a private event, i can't Judge regular food that they serve there. but from what choices we were given, it seems like they have a few fusion style choices that was really good. But that's the catering options they gave us, so don't quote me on their...
