Every time I come back, me and my family go for either lunch or dinner. Today was no exception. With friendly staff and delicious food, it's no wonder the atmosphere is always bustling.
Today, we ordered four things: Soya Beef Fried Noodle; Baked Pork Chop with Curry Sauce with Rice; French Toast; and my favourite, Beef Brisket Fried Noodle.
Soya Beef Fried Noodle is a typical order for Hong Kong-styled cafés and is pretty hard to mess up. Café Gloucester's version was pretty standard as well. I found theirs to be less greasy and salty as other restaurant's, which although I'm not quite used to, I definitely appreciate from the health perspective.
Baked Pork Chop with Curry Sauce with Rice is a nice mix-up from the usual tomato sauce variety. I like both versions from Café Gloucester because they somehow are able to keep their pork chop nice and crispy despite the sauce, a feat not easily accomplished. The curry sauce this time was a nice change and wasn't too spicy. I did find it a little bit greasier than a tomato sauce but I understand that this is due to the fact that you need to use oil to fry up the curry powder to enhance its flavour.
French Toast was yummy! I loved that it's made with kaya jam, something that's often replaced with peanut butter nowadays. I would have liked it more if it was crispier on the outside, but it was good nonetheless.
Now to my favourite dish - Beef Brisket Fried Noodles. This is another change up from your average Cantonese Fried Noodle. It still has the crispy base but with a different sauce - the stewed beef brisket sauce! I really love the combination. I found that the beef brisket to be soft and tender and the sauce was just right!
Café Gloucester is definitely worth giving a try! Its busy ambience is reminiscent of a typical Hong Kong café, but cleaner and with...
Read moreNot really one to post food reviews, but just extremely disappointed with this dish and don't want to see others waste $45 on this "combo" meat plate.
The steak was less than an inch thick. Asked me for wellness level, when cooking anything other than well done isn't possible.
The fish is just cheap Costco frozen filet. Tastes very low quality. Not looking for top end fish but this is just embarassing.
The sausage is just generic cheap sausage. No comment but not really an issue, just not noteworthy.
The lamb was actually decent, it was cooked well and was edible, but the experience was ruined because it was smaller than the potatoes the dish came served with.
I didn't even touch my pork chop. It was completely buried in pepper. Not edible and half of it was just fat.
For $45 this dish is an absolute joke. I normally have a decent experience at this establishment but this left a literal bad taste in my mouth. Going to eat elsewhere.
Salt on the wound, the complimentary bread at the start of the meal was stale as if it's sat on a counter for awhile before serving. Reminiscent of a microwaved bun dehydrated and left out too long.
Save yourself the headache and just order a baked spaghetti or something, can't go wrong...
Read moreDelicious food, however, the older lady waitress with glasses and short hair was rude. It was my first time being there, and I asked about the mini set menu. She rudely pointed to the menu and, in a rude manner, said these are it. Her demeanor was hostile and unkind. I then ordered, and as soon I did, she asked what drink? And I asked for almond milk. On the menu, it said $4.50, so I asked if that is the price since the menu was not clear at all (for a first comer to their restaurant). She then said something but I couldn't understand what she said. So I re-asked, and then that's when she gave me a glare and said it's included. She could have just said it again without the hostility. So I apologized to her for not hearing what she said and ordered. The food was amazing, but the rude waitress lady made me feel uncomfortable. As more people came to be seated , I could hear her speaking in a pleasant voice speaking in Cantonese. Is it because I dont speak the language? What is her problem? I'm not sure if I would return. Still left 15% tip since based on her demeanor, she seems to be very unhappy with her life...
