I haven't tried everything at this place yet, but so far everything I did try had been pretty fantastic. It's difficult to find gluten-free products that you can absolutely trust with no cross contamination AND also tastes good and feels good to bite into. I'm not celiac myself but someone important to me is, and we've gone through plenty of gluten-free products that don't quite hit the spot--things are often a bit too crumbly/soft and just doesn't have nearly the same consistency as products that aren't gluten free. Lemonade comes pretty close though! I really like their individual-sized cakes because it's aesthetically cute and small enough to justify ordering multiple flavours without feeling like a total cake monster 🙄🤭. It's also here where I came across my first gluten-free croissant, which was a pretty amazing find as well (they're tiny but surprisingly filling!). Hope they keep up the good work!
Also, I think they're doing a good job of following covid protocols and keeping maximum capacity at two customers in store at a time. Fellow customers I've come across here are very respectful of this as well--they would wait outside and leave appropriate distance between fellow patrons, which is not something I can say for every bakery/restaurant I've seen throughout this whole pandemic mess. I feel safe visiting this store in person, as well as trust in the authenticity of their gluten-free products!
PS. Ordering online was a rather smooth experience as well, I would recommend doing this as well as paying in advance if you already know what you want to order ahead of time. It's quick...
Read moreDecided to come down on the weekend to experience a few different gluten free bakeries in Vancouver. I had never been to Lemonade before and was looking forward to trying some of their baked goods. When I entered I was the only customer there at that time and while there were 2-3 people behind the counter, I wasn't greeted by anyone including the person standing behind the cash register. After a few minutes of looking they asked if I wanted anything so I mentioned it was my first time and while I planned to buy some items I was still browsing, from there I received no response.
Their retail cooler display was impressive in that the pastries looked well decorated and full. Their baked goods however looked fairly lacklustre and the pastries themselves did not appeal (appearance or flavours). I ended up getting some bread and did try an almond croissant as I've read their croissants are delicious, however I felt otherwise and ended up discarding more than half of it. The bread was good in flavour, texture was a bit dense but I personally didn't mind that.
Coming from someone who's worked in the hospitality industry for decades, had I not just travelled an hour to try Lemonade I would have personally walked out of the bakery after being ignored when I entered. The first impression is everything regardless of being a new or returning customer and to not even receive a hello made my visit very awkward.
I'd only return for some bread if I was already in the area, and to also see if there was any difference in the friendliness of the...
Read moreThe idea of gluten free is great. But personally I ordered a few items - such as the lemonade mouse, the top was NOT very sweet which was nice, but the bottom of the cup was overly sweet. Also for the mango passionfruit tart with whipping on the top - the whipping was very sweet but the tart filling was super sour! I can't even finish eating it now.
But you may not have this problem if you each the whole piece in one bite, the top and bottom together in one bite, but this doesn't work for me as I disassemble food.
I'm sure they have great quality, but perhaps can work a more even taste throughout each piece. Most people probably who has a gluten free diet with lack of choices would love this place compared to no other choice for desserts. I'm not gluten free but liked the idea and saw good reviews and gave this place a try, but in comparison to other non gluten free places, such as Beta 5, Thomas Haas, Ganache, and other more prestige dessert NON GLUTEN FREE places, the tastes of desserts aren't for me. I don't think I will be back. But overall, perhaps one of the best choices if you are into gluten free as they use good quality ingredients, just the taste is not for me.
The COVID protocols were in place, the service was fine, parking I was able to find parking on the street, they take credit...
