Decided to give this new location a try hoping it would be better than a nearby one that I frequent. Sadly, it was quite the opposite. The space is visually really nice, but the food on the other hand fell short.
Not entirely sure where to start, but here we go. The (bland-ish) beef, which you pay a premium for, was in strange small chewy chunks, as opposed to the tender, donair-appropriate slices I’ve had at another location. The proteins are portioned out using these already fairly small scoops, and in this scenario weren’t even fully loaded. My wrap was almost panini-like because of how lacking it was, with the bites overwhelmingly pita bread instead of filling.
Prices have gone up, I’m assuming franchise-wide, which is understandable due to inflation, but what’s unacceptable is the drastic and disproportionate drop in value. It’s fair that we as customers compensate a bit for the increasing ingredient costs, but to also serve substantially less at the same time just reads as greed by trying to boost margins both ways. Mind you this was at a different location, but I was even once restricted on the number of sauces I could use… I may be wrong, but I feel like a satisfied repeat customer with the potential to bring others and spread the business through word-of-mouth, is way more valuable than a few points per unit and subsequently them never returning.
The employees are generally warm, friendly and hospitable which is wonderful, but it does not make up for an underwhelming product which is ultimately what hungry customers are paying for.
These past few experiences with the new direction that the franchise is implementing is enough to make me hesitate the next time I’m deciding on what to eat even at the expense of convenience. It’s unfortunate though because for the most part the food has tasted pretty good and I was somewhat okay with the price being on the upper end of fast-food, but I’ve been led to think that the money might be best spent elsewhere going forward.
Ironic as it is for being a fast-food chain, I think the business will be fine due to the lack of variety and culture in this pretty homogenous city; more specifically downtown core.
One star for the bright-vibrant space, one for the friendly staff, and one for the memory of what a good Donair Dude experience was.
Oh yeah, and there’s a “deal” that’s being advertised that isn’t very much of a deal where it approaches 20 for a...
Read moreI recently had a Donair from Donair Dude and unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. The quality was shockingly low, leaving me unsatisfied and disappointed.
Firstly, the protein content was severely lacking. It felt more like a garnish than a substantial part of the meal. I expected a hearty portion of meat, but instead, it was just a teaspoon of grey, unappetizing substance that resembled cat food. This was a major letdown, especially considering the reputation Donairs typically have for their generous servings of flavorful meat.
The visual presentation was equally unappetizing. The dull grey color and unappetizing texture of the meat left much to be desired. It was far from the appetizing, succulent image one would associate with a Donair.
Overall, my experience with this Donair was extremely disappointing. I was left wanting for more in every aspect - from the protein content to the visual appeal. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment for a Donair, as there are certainly much better options available elsewhere.
It's a shame when a beloved dish falls short of expectations. I hope that this restaurant can take steps to improve the quality of their Donairs...
Read moreAlways found Donair Dude to be the best Donair/gyro in town. No other donair shop in town can compare to the freshness, quality, cleanliness, service and selection as Donair Dude.
I find that all Donair Dude locations are very consistent. Feel confident knowing whatever location I go to will be the same. But I have to mention the new Main and Terminal location is just on another level. Wow wow wow! There are so many new dishes, and their quality is much higher than what you would get at a fast food place. I would say the quality is like sit down restaurant.
They now have roasted potatoes and mushrooms which I have tried and are to die for. They are that good!. But I would say the best change at this location is the real beef and lamb. Whenever I go to Donair Dude I only get the chicken but now I rotate between the chicken and beef. The last 3 or 4 times I got the beef as it is that good. I can literally go there everyday and not get bored as there are so many great dishes. If I could give it 6 stars I would but don't believe what I say and try it out for yourselves. You will not be...
