East One Seafood Restaurant is the resting place for my last meal out with my friends for a while. My summer vacation is coming to an end. Surprisingly I've eaten at three Chinese restaurants for dinner in the last week. (Golden Spring Restaurant, Kwan Luck Restaurant and East One Seafood Restaurant) I must say this one takes the cake.

Of the three, In terms of price, this is the cheapest. In terms of how busy it was, this was more. In terms of portion, this place brought on the appetite. Last on the list, quality. The food seemed a little better than the other three. Prawns were actually crispy, the red bean dessert actually had beans (check out the photo) and a mouth feel, not watered down with water or a burnt pot taste. My mom would approve of this place, my mom hates how every place is extremely salty and loaded with MSG. Upon eating a few bites I could say it was under salted and tasted as if I made this at home. It's exactly how one would make food at home. With love and seasoning and not have any need for boat loads of MSG and salt.

We ordered the set dinner combo for three which included soup + half chicken + 3 of your own choice dishes + dessert. Out the door we paid just under $60.00 tax and tip in. The service could be better but they were slammed busy. Even at 8:45 PM when we left, 85%-90% of restaurant was seated and more people were still flowing in. Giving it was a Saturday night it's possibly...

Came here for dinner and ordered Shredded Pork and Century Egg Congee, Brisket and Tendon Soup noodle, as well as sweet chinese donut; which were all decent eats and under $20 with tax. The service here is very mediocre and messed up our order twice.

The shredded pork was insanely salty but its helped with the plainness of the congee. The congee itself was pretty good with light flavors and portion size was quite big for the price you pay. The brisket and tendon soup was a bit bland and not as flavorful, however, the beef brisket itself tasted amazing. The brisket was juicy, soft, and full of taste; 10/10 for the brisket itself but the rest was nothing special.

I waited 10+ minutes for my sweet chinese donut before asking about it. Turns out they ran out and didn't bother to tell my so I opted for the regular chinese donut. It came relatively quick but a bit lukewarm and did not have a slight crunch. Nonetheless, the donut itself was soft, chewy and had good texture.

Overall, the service here was okay and felt the restaurant to be a bit dirty and slippery; I entered and left the establishment with caution. They messed up my order twice and made me wait for something they didn't have which was a bit disappointing especially since it was one of the managers that took my order. This is a traditional Chinese restaurant. It is very crowded on the weekend. Food is good but you need to look closely at prices. I gave them one star because they did 3 very wrong things in restaurant rules:

  1. They intentionally added extra bowl of won ton and charged us.
  2. Chef signature plate was lobster & lotus leaf for $58. It turned out with a tiny lobster and 1 claw. It is less than one pound (they claimed it was 1.75 lb). Sticky rice is too sweet in lobster sauce and almost tasted like congee. Never order this plate, it is worth less than $12.
  3. Fried noodle seafood is a joke, one shrimp and basa fish. Fried noodle overcooked with bitter taste. Lot of msg which will make you very thirsty after meal. When I gave the manager my opinion, instead of listening, she was very defensive and covered their mistakes. In my opinion, you should never eat here if you are not planning to get upset and feeling ripped off. There are many other Chinese restaurant like Ho Yuen Kee or Sandyla. Much better deal and taste.

Thank you for your time and I really hope my post could help your family meal when you...

A very decent and inexpensive lunch experience! I found the experience to be the same as the last few times when I visited - decent portions, low salt, and good price. I like the sets that come with a hot drink (I always get a hot milk tea which didn’t disappoint!) and daily soup (it was “chinese borscht” aka a tomato based soup with random vegetables lol). One thing that bugs me is that there is one entire menu (double sided) that’s all in Chinese. I don’t like excluding people that can’t read Chinese (I can, and if you can’t read Chinese it’s non-set dishes like congee etc) so one star off for that bit of exclusion. Aside from that, the food is very reasonable. One minor issue this time was the servers kind of ignored me until I flagged them down and started speaking Chinese. I’ve come here for dinner before and they had good deals for razor clams (rare for our city) and king crab when it was in season; there is a live seafood tank which is great.

I really try not to write bad reviews on restaurants but this was not a good meal. I actually didn't know HK style breakfast can be so bad until today. We ordered a pork liver congee, the pork liver was overcooked and the blood made the congee really brown. Generally, the congee comes white and they add the liver afterwards to avoid the brown colour. We also ordered the breakfast combo with eggs, white toast, and spam with a side of ham and macaroni. The white toast was boring, spam was on the unappetizing side, really thin, but the eggs were cooked well. The macaroni soup had too much sesame oil that overpowered the broth. Out of all the HK style breakfast places, I would avoid this place. It was super busy, so I don't think this review will affect their business but the quality is not there.
