Fortune City seafood is always a reliable Cantonese restaurant. We’ve been frequenting them for many years, whether it’s for dim sum, lunch, dinner or delivery, they’re always fast, fresh and reasonable.
Some of our favourite dishes includes their salt and pepper pork chops, their sautee shrimp with egg, ginger green onion beef hot pot, house special steam chicken, house special chow mien and so much more. It’s hard to avoid Chinese restaurants using MSG, and I think they do a good balance of it. While I have nothing against MSG, I find some restaurants over use it to hide the inferior quality of their ingredients. Not the case with fortune city seafood.
Service is very typical of Chinese restaurants, you have to get a server’s attention if you want anything, but they do make the effort to provide special touches. One time we ordered way too many dishes and our table was cramped, after requesting for a bigger table, they helped us shift all our cutlery and dishes over. They will also ask if you would like the curtains down in the evening when the sun can be in your eyes.
They also started doing discounted dishes for take out during COVID. They are now $18/dish, and they’re great when you don’t want to make dinner but still have a family to feed. Or if you want o just add a few extra dishes to your meal.
Overall a great place to go for Chinese food and we’ve been enjoying our...
Read moreHad family dinner last Tuesday night. We drove all the way in from Coquitlam thinking that the dinner fare would be decent since this location is frequented often by local Chinese.
In short: awful food and really bad service despite the restaurant not being full.
The sweet and sour pork meat was nearly all pork fat, fried batter, and gristle and the sauce non-existent. The braised beef brisket came lukewarm and comprised of mainly turnip and fat. Chicken and scallop stir fry had very, very little meat, despite paying a premium for it.
After waiting nearly an hour and fifteen minutes of trying to work our way through the three dishes, the whole steamed fish we ordered still had not arrived. Tables seated after us were receiving their fish. When we told them about this, we received every excuse out there: "It's coming."; "The kitchen is very busy. Your fish is coming in few minutes."; "The fish at the other tables were 'pre-steamed'." (What!?)
Fed up, I cancelled the fish and asked for our bill, which took it's time to get to us. Surprisingly, the staff did absolutely nothing to make it up to us. No free rice, no apologies, nothing. Needless to say, they did not deserve a tip nor my recommendation.
It was a pricey night and long drive for gross food, bad service, and...
Read moreWe came here for a quick dinner and we were surprised with the quality and taste of the dishes we ordered. Fortune City is located in the East 1st plaza where there is a T&T on the bottom most floor. We ordered the Sautéed Cod Fish with Gai Lan & the Braised Seafood with Chicken Fried Rice aka Seafood FuChow Fried Rice. The cod and gai lan were super fresh and sautéed in a ginger and onion sauce. It was perfection!! Cod was soft and super fresh. The fried rice was amazing as well. The gravy sauce was made with abalone I believe which was poured over the fried rice. Together they marry so well and it was like a seafood fried rice party in my mouth. There is also tender and juicy pieces of chicken in the mix like standard fu chow fried rice does. Both dishes were excellent. Service was great as well, thanks to the two kind ladies who served us. And at the end they were kind enough to give us a complimentary dessert before we left - it was like a Taro Sago dessert soup. So delicious! We need to come back and try dim sum here. Highly recommend dinner as the quality is top. Prices are fair and are worth it! Must bring your family here 😉 PS: there's free...
