I REALLY didn't want to give any restaurant a one star but this time I just HAD TO... DO NOT trust social media pictures of this place, they are there for the pics not for the taste. I got the Kaiseki and almost every single course missed the mark tonight and it totally ruined Xmas eve dinner for me. Start with the sushi, they couldn't even get the basic right, by which I meant the sushi rice. The rice was mushy, either overcooked or they just used bad rice. The rice base was dense, soggy and all stucked together. This alone ruined the Nigiri for me. Not to mention they didn't put the wasabi on the sushi but they put it on the side... I had to open the fish, put the wasabi on the rice, then close it.... Why on the earth would they do that? The fish was nothing special, just your usual tuna, scallop, sweet shrimp, the mackerel was very fishy. For dessert, the crumble was sandy, the strawberry and green tea thing was very cheap and tasted VERY bad, couldn't finish them. Only thing good was the hojicha moose. For the soup, I didn't get why they used starch to thicken it, also didn't get the big chunks of yuzu peel, the soup was bland and didn't need it. Starter, the jelly fish was very sour. The starter overall could use less vinegar. Main course was the only course that was actually decent. However when I finished the fish and got to the Wagyu it was already cold and it was not pleasant. I really liked the dipping sauce tho. My drink was also terrible, got a mock cocktail and it tasted like chemicals. Tried my best but also couldn't finish it. Servers also looked kind of lost at this place. Overall I didn't have much expectations but somehow this place still managed to disappoint. Like the menu didn't really resemble your usual Kaiseki menu but fine. The place looked like a 20 dollars sushi lunch place not a fine dining place but okay. I didn't expected it to be authentic or match places I went in Japan, but I expected it to be at least tasty for a $500 dinner. But it did not... EDIT: Their regular menu looked alright but this place is definitely not cut to do any kind of Kaiseki or Omakase. They should learn to do the basic like flavoring and cooking stuff properly first.

I would feel guilty if I didn’t share this incredible place with others. The food here is absolutely phenomenal - their mastery of heat control and precision with seasoning is something you can truly taste with every bite. I ordered the “omakase gozen” and what I received exceeded all my expectations. As someone who loves dining alone and exploring food, this meal was designed like a perfect culinary journey. It began with refreshing sashimi, progressed through richly flavored grilled nigiri that danced on my palate, continued with succulent and substantial unagi, delightful tempura, and concluded with a comforting bowl of udon soup. The entire dining experience felt like embarking on an exciting adventure and then returning home to that familiar sense of warmth and comfort. I honestly struggle to find words to express how amazed I am. To experience cuisine of this caliber for just $39 is remarkable, and this is the first restaurant in Vancouver that has moved me this deeply. If you’re reading this review, I genuinely and wholeheartedly encourage you to step into this restaurant and give it a chance. While it may not be as prominently located as other establishments, I promise you that every dollar you spend will be absolutely worth it.

I won a gift card from Hoshi thru IG so my wife & I went today for lunch. It's our first time to be in this restaurant. We ordered Hoshi Special Gozen, Sukiyaki Set and Tuna Mango Salsa. The taste is so perfect for my health, its not salty & just right flavor. Very flavorful indeed. 1. Sukiyaki - The beef is so tender, the veggie, tofu, noodle & broth are all so flavorful. 2. Hoshi Special Gozen - This was served as in two sets of platter. One platter is sashimi, 2 kinds of aburi oshi sushi while the other platter is Grilled sliced salmon with veggies and a piece of japanese burger. This is the killer, soooo good. 3. Albacore Tuna Mango Salsa is to die for. The dressing is like sweet & soury. I love how the blend of this dressing. so flavorful. We end up finishing all the food, no left over. I commend the servers. They are so friendly. Always checking if everything is alright. Hoshi is now my No. 1 Japanese Restaurant that I will definitely comes back. It's worth your money.

We wanted to book this place for dinner on friday, and on their website, it showed that there is absolutely no availability for any time slot for that day. We decided to give it a try for a walk-in as we were very close. The restaurant was absolutely empty to our shock. However, after 2 hrs, the place was almost full, but I'm not sure why the booking was showing it was absolutely full all day.

For food, we got the japanese hotpot, sukiyaki, crudo, ika kare, and the dragon roll, and for dessert, we got the cream caramel pudding Most of the food tasted decent and good, but in our opinion, the quality did not match the price.

The taste and quality of the food were decent but nothing out of the ordinary. In my opinion the price for almost everything was at least 50% higher than what it should have been. From any food item to any alcohol comparinh to other restaurants in vancouver. The prices were matching for higher quality food and service, but here it was just very decent.

I think the price is just for the location since it's by the water and you can see the marina, however the atmosphere and the design inside is just very mediocre as they just have some photos of japan on the walls and it makes look very cheap, same with the menu with so many low quality photos and worn out pages.

I do want to add that our server was very polite and well mannered.

I am not sure what this restaurant is about, as it is priced towards the higher end restaurant, located in a good neighborhood but it still needs lots of work to be a higher end restaurant with their management, decoration and food. It seems to me there are some good ideas from the chef, especially with a variety of whole fish sashimi options, with fish head, which is...

Drove 30 mins from Richmond just to try this place becuase the pictures on social media looked great. When everyone at our table already got their food, the dishes I ordered were still missing. I asked the server to esculate my order, she told me to wait a little longer cuz my food would come in any minute. After everyone was finished with their food and their plates already got collected, I asked another server whose attitude wasn't that nice that if I could just cancel my order cuz it was taking too long. However, that server said it's too late to cancel my order. (up to this point I think they just missed my order without telling me) After another 10 mins, I asked the same server again to cacel it cuz my parking was running out of time, she said apparently she already cancelled my order without informing me... Why did she tell me it was too late to cancel it at the first place... I wasted another 10 mins waiting for nothing!!! The same server told me I asked to cancel it because I was too full that I wouldn't be able to finish what I orderd. Clearly this wasn't the case, everyone at my table knows that my food never came for the whole time nor did I get to eat anything. I never told the server I was full, the server was being dishonest and I am starting to doubt the quality of the service here. Service: deserves nothing but a 0/10 Food: 0/10, cannot rate cuz I didn't get to eat anything I AM NEVER GIVING THEM...
