Was so excited to try these out as they look very nice, but was quite disappointed to say the least.
The dough was nice and soft as expected for a small batch style doughbut, but that was where it all went downhill.
The dough itselt felt overly salty/savory, and they had a strong "alcoholic" aftertaste which lingered and overpowered any flavors of the filling. I love the smell and taste of yeast in doughs, but have never had something with such a strong alcohol bite/punch. It was very odd nonetheless.
For the filling, I was expecting there to be much more flavor for a high end doughnut. The strawberry doughnut had hardly any strawberry flavor, instead, mostly cream and little bits of fruit. Not even a quarter of a strawberry on top to make it look nicer and taste more of strawberry?
The salted caramel hardly tasted of caramel, which again was disappointing because all you have to focus on is the salty/punchy dough flavor.
The Nutella was probably the most disappointing to say the least. Where the other flavors felt like it was just mostly cream, the Nutella filling was very thick. Almost like it was straight up Nutella. I get that you want it to taste like the spread, but it was just so thick in the mouth and did not combine well with the texture of the dough. It just clings to your palate as if you just had a spoon of Nutella.
My thoughts are that there was very little harmony in terms of the overall product; flavor and texture wise. I was definitely not the only one with this opinion.
Contrasting to a krispy kreme original glaze, at the least, those doughnuts are harmonious. A nice, soft and smooth, texture through each bite with a pleasant sweetness that dissipates without any lingering aftertaste or overpowering flavor profiles.
I guess I just did not expect this from a 4$ doughnut. Flavors don't speak as loudly as the looks. If you went to a nice pastry shop for some macaroons, you can expect salted caramel to taste like what it is supposed to.
You will be disappointed if you value the quality of a product in terms of the taste...
Read moreI recently had the chance to visit Mello Donuts, a well-loved Vancouver donut destination, and the warm and helpful staff made my experience even better. They were happy to answer any questions and assist me in choosing the most delectable donuts from their impressive selection.
As a primarily takeout establishment, Mello Donuts focuses on providing a seamless and efficient service to its customers. Although there's limited space to stand inside and enjoy your donut, it seems like the majority of people opt for takeout, which makes it ideal for those who want to savor their treats in the comfort of their own homes or on the go.
The assortment of donuts at Mello Donuts is truly remarkable. I tried the Cereal doughnut and was blown away by the delightful blend of crunchy cereal and velvety dough. The staff highly recommended the Strawberry doughnut, which turned out to be equally scrumptious. I've also heard fantastic things about their Matcha doughnut while I was there and can't wait to give it a taste on my next visit.
In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Mello Donuts and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a friendly and delightful donut spot. The staff is warm and attentive, the takeout service is efficient, and the donuts are absolutely delicious. The Cereal and Strawberry doughnuts are must-tries, and don't forget to keep an eye out for the much-talked-about Matcha doughnut. With its enticing atmosphere, late-night hours, and ever-evolving menu, Mello Donuts is the perfect place to indulge in a...
Read moreDonut judge me, but I cannot stay Mello at the sight of these donuts🤩
I finally got a chance to check out @mellovancouver and it met my expectations😋 I prefer these brioche doughnuts to the regular ones as it’s not overly sweet and it’s very fluffy
The strawberry and cream is their signature doughnut and easily everyone’s favourite. This doughnut is partially cut in half and filled with ample luscious cream and bits of strawberries. Although, I wish there were a bit more strawberries. The sugar on top added a nice crunchy contrast to the doughy texture. All the brioche doughnuts have some chewiness to them but not dense. In fact, it’s very fluffy and airy. The taste is light as compare to your regular denser variety
Both the strawberry & cream and tiramisu are among my favourites. The tiramisu’s coffee flavour was on the mild side and had a powdery cocoa on the outside. I enjoyed the lemon curd as well because I love tartness and sour. Any other lemon flavour fans out there?
Mello is cashless, thank you 🙏 They usually don’t have all the flavours available for walk-ins. Preordering 24 hours in advance via email is highly recommended to avoid disappointments
-strawberry cream $5.00 -dark chocolate pudding $3.95 -lemon curd $3.95 -vanilla $3.95 -tiramisu $5.00
