Truck food business is generally tough as there is a perceived notion that the quality and taste are always sub-par and menu is very narrow and limited, compared to a typical ‘sit and dine’ brick and mortar restaurant. This place amazingly defeats that hard believed mindset and paves a beautiful way for a world of culinary delights. From a modest truck, this business churns out surprisingly excellent food not only quality and taste wise but also the huge spread of menu, meeting the taste buds of many. Parked on Burrard street bang opposite to Burrard Station (you can’t miss it and that’s how I ended up eating at this place), remains open for longer hours every day from 8 am to 10 pm unlike other food trucks (except Sundays 12 pm to 9 pm). My partner had a day long conference in Fairmont Hotel and I had just accompanied her for the commute, and having nothing else to do during the day, on my own I set my foot out and happened to see this truck, well, after having a heavy meal in a nearby restaurant. Had I seen the truck, I would have begun my day here. Nevertheless, I approached and Kailash was very friendly and very personable. I explained my situation and having known that I have already eaten, he gave an idli with very hot boiling sambar to carry and to taste on a complimentary basis. I took it to the hotel room and had the idli, OMG, what a taste! Mind blowing. I immediately decided to have my next meal there. Came down I looked at the countless options, and since it was so elaborate I sought the help of Kailash, who recommended Hyderabadi Biriyani! And what a recommendation was! It was THE best biriyani, I ever had in my life! My mind instantly said I should try all their items in the menu. I again went back and this time I met Charan as well. The team is awesome, taste is heavenly, portions are sizeable, price is very affordable that too in the core downtown! Highly recommended! Needless to say, going forward, when I am here in downtown, it would be always Downtown Dosas! Wish the team good luck and immense growth! Keep it up team Downtown Dosas! Five stars to you on all...
Read moreRecently, I had the pleasure of visiting Downtown Dosa, a vibrant food truck nestled right in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Surrounded by the city’s hustle and bustle and located near a small waterfall, this hidden gem brings the authentic taste of South India to the busy streets. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed—not just by the mouthwatering aroma of fresh dosas, but also by the warm hospitality of the staff.
The dosa itself was a treat: thin, crispy, and full of traditional flavor, just like how it’s made back in South India. Paired with their superb chutneys, each bite was both comforting and exciting. What stood out to me was the diversity on the menu, which caters to a wide audience by offering vegan, gluten-free, and halal options. It’s rare to find such an inclusive food spot, especially one that doesn’t compromise on taste or authenticity.
What makes Downtown Dosa even more appealing is its convenience. The service was swift, making it ideal for people on a lunch break or those passing through downtown who need a quick, satisfying meal. There’s even a small seating area nearby, perfect for enjoying your food on the go. One minor downside was the lack of waste disposal—three trash bins were overflowing, which made cleanup tricky.
That said, Downtown Dosa truly captures the essence of South Indian street food in a modern, urban setting. With promises of new menu additions soon, it’s definitely a must-visit for both dosa enthusiasts and curious...
Read moreI recently visited Downtown Dosa in Vancouver, and it was such a delightful experience from start to finish! The friendly couple running the food cart were incredibly warm and welcoming, they truly care about their customers and the food they serve. Their kindness and genuine smiles made the visit even more enjoyable.
The food was absolutely amazing! I ordered a dosa, a samosa, and a chai, and every single item was a 10/10. The dosa was crispy and flavorful with perfectly spiced chutneys and sambar. The samosa had a flaky crust and tasty filling, and the chai was rich, comforting, and aromatic—just how it should be. The flavors were authentic and reminded me of true South Indian street food.
It’s a food cart located right in downtown Vancouver, perfect for a quick, delicious meal when you’re exploring the city. There’s no seating at the cart itself, but there’s a public bench nearby you can use to enjoy your food while taking in the lively downtown atmosphere.
The prices were very fair for the quality and portion sizes. Everything tasted fresh, and the service was quick and friendly. Even though it’s a small setup, the experience felt personal and full of heart.
Overall, Downtown Dosa is a hidden gem in downtown Vancouver, fantastic food, wonderful people, and unbeatable value. I’ll definitely be back for another dosa and chai next time I’m...
