Usually when I come to Nana green tea it is very quiet because I come on the weekdays. I went once on a weekend and it was as noisy as hell. So I walked in as usual with a few of my friends. One of my friends went to get some seats first and apparently we couldn't get seats without ordering first. So a waitress told my friend to get out of the seat and gave it to another pesorn. We shrugged it off and waited in line for about 15 minutes when it was my turn, the guy who was taking orders had wandered off somewhere so I stood there awkwardly waiting for someone to take my order. Finally, when he came back he took my order. I had three friends with me. Then the waiter told us that they only had a two seater table and asked if we could wait for thirty minutes. Thirty. So we asked if we could stand and he told us that it is to squishy to stand. So two of my friends went to wait outside until some people finally left. The tables were soooo small. It was really squashed in there. There were many people who finished with their food and just SAT there with their friends and chatted for like fifty more minutes. They were still there after we finished out desserts but anyways, so once we sat down a couple left then finally my friends got to sit down. As our desserts came the table we dug into it happily. Then I realized that the matcha chocolate was so sweet that after eating it I couldn't taste the rest of my matcha ice cream. The table beside us were literally screaming and laughing. I strongly advise you to only go with two people only. Anyways I had to use the washroom. So I waited in a huge line for the washroom. When it was my turn I walked in and looked in horror that there was pee everywhere on the floor. I really had to go so I had to do the weird stance to avoid stepping on the pee. There was pee every where all over the toilet seat. When I finally finished I walked out and a huge line was forming. The people beside us were still not done "eating". When we finally walked out of the store my ears were ringing horribly from all the noise in the store. I advise you to got on weekdays and not use the washroom. I mean if you really have...
Read moreI’d been curious about the food at Nana’s Green Tea for quite awhile so I was quite excited to see that it was one of the restaurants participating in Dine Out Vancouver this year. As soon as the snow let up, I went out with a friend to Nana’s Green Tea for lunch. Their Dine Out Vancouver menu was $28 and offered the choice of a hot or cold drink, main course and dessert.
We ordered the following: Azuki Latte (cold) Hojicha Latte (hot) Ikura and Salmon Chazuke Matcha Warabimochi Parfait Matcha Nama Choco Parfait
I wasn’t too crazy about the cold Azuki Latte but everything else was delicious. We both ordered the same dish for our main course. I had half expected to see raw salmon in my bowl but was elated to look into my bowl and see pieces of cooked salmon instead. This is a place I could bring our daughter to as she doesn’t eat raw fish. The salmon was very moist and tender, and the texture of the Ikura really complemented the dish.
I think it would have been nice if the server had taken time to explain how to eat our food. Our main course came with a teapot containing broth to pour over the Ikura and Salmon Chazuke. My friend and I both knew either from a combination of Google research or from past experience that the broth needed to be poured over the food. However, I can easily imagine other people sitting down to this meal, and not realizing that there was a broth in the teapot that needed to be poured over their food.
Both desserts consisted of matcha soft serve twisted with a vanilla soft serve, and accompanied with various toppings. Pairing the matcha soft serve with vanilla is a brilliant idea as the matcha soft serve is on the bitter side. Our daughter would love this matcha ice cream as she has a liking for bitter matcha ice cream.
I’ll be back here sometime for sure so that I can treat our daughter to the matcha ice cream!

Read moreThis cafe serves matcha-based (and other Japanese-flavoured) desserts and drinks and some Japanese comfort meals. The sweets are their speciality but I do like the savoury dishes too, they're simple but it's a refreshing style of food and they seem to use good ingredients including fresh seafood. I have tried the ikura & salmon and teriyaki unagi dashi chazukes, and the tofu & avocado donburi (this is the one vegetarian savoury and it's kind of a "secret menu" item in fine print as a variation on the tuna w/ avocado donburi). The teriyaki unagi dashi chazuke is the clear winner out of these three for me since the teriyaki delivers a lot of flavour, but all were enjoyable. As for the namesake desserts and drinks, the three matcha treats that I have tried (matcha tiramisu, matcha basque cheesecake, matcha gateau chocolat) all carried a strong matcha flavour, not too sweet, and are just generally good baking. The traditional matcha (they call it “matcha espresso” to show that it’s like a shot in size and concentration; it doesn’t contain espresso) was pleasant and mildly umami. The hot tea is great and the adzuki latte was also really nice - very light earthy flavour but lots of red bean. The cold brew hojicha is my favourite so far, though, it was very refreshing and had a nice clean taste. I've been three times over the past few years and maybe it's just the menu items that I've picked, but I feel like the quality has been slightly upped each time, which is a relief to see in an era where it's mostly the opposite happening. The staff is nice and the food comes out in a reasonable amount of time. They have kiosk ordering, which isn’t my favourite, but the kiosks are easy to use. The staff is polite. The new Mount Pleasant location has a fair amount of seating at large...
