I was 36 weeks pregnant and a glass bottle fell from the shelve and when it hit the ground it came back up and got my leg. I was bleeding everywhere! The cashier saw it and went to get a first aid kit, but the manager came and as I was balancing on one foot trying to stop the blood with my hands came over with a mop and asked me to move so he could clean the liquid up! Didnt ask me if I was okay or get me a chair to sit down on. Thank goodness their was a nice enough patron walking by who saw and was trying to help me! The girl who went to get the first aid kit couldn't find it, came back with 1 band aid the first time so I told her I needed a first aid kit! 15mins later she came back with one, didnt know what to do, her hands were shaking, she looked like she was going to cry, so i had to walk her through the steps to bandage my leg up to stop the bleeding- their were also no gloves in the first aid kit so I had to bandage everything while balancing on one foot while 36 weeks pregnant, trying to comfort this lady who was supposed to be helping me! I ended up going to the hospital, getting stitches. I then went back to urban fare later in the week to get an incident report only for them to say "it wasn't that bad of an accident that the store needed to file one." They also never bothered to apologize for the mishandling/lack of care I received while sustaining an injury on their premises. So disgusted with this store. Just goes to show if you get hurt their they will not be able...
Read moreONLY come here if you don't have time to visit another grocery store. It is only good for convenience.
Pros: It's conveniently located in Olympic Village. It's open earlier and later than other places in the village.
Cons: Terrible, terrible customer service. The people working there are often unwelcoming and rude, and look like they hate their jobs. Not all, but many. We wonder if they don't care about customer service since so many people go simply because it's convenient and is the only grocery store in the village. The machines at the self-service often require an attendant's help (will say the weight of your items is off, etc.) We end up calling an attendant over most of the time. Very time-consuming when it's supposed to help streamline the process of checking out. Bulk items are not well-stocked and bins are often empty. The prices are WILD- super jacked-up compared to any other store in town. You can get a piece of chocolate the size of a Kit Kat for $7.99. Even the gift baskets are over the top, and priced at much, much higher than way bigger and nicer gift baskets elsewhere (eg. Save On Foods and Costco nearby). Sometimes we just go for fun to look at the prices. Parking can be tough and there is only paid street parking available. You may have to make a few rounds around the block. If you are driving there, it's best not to ..and just visit Save-On or Costco...
Read moreMy relationship with Urban Fare can best be described as "it's complicated". It's the only grocery store between my work and my home, so I'll swing by - sometimes begrudgingly - on my way home from work to get ingredients for dinner.
Their selection is... "eclectic", I guess. Fruits and veg availability is spotty, deli and meat counter always full of interesting, unique items, a vast array of overpriced (but fair) local items mixed among overpriced mass-produced "alternative" brands, motion-sensor-based fridge lights for a neat effect as they turn on when you walk past them, there's a huge selection of organic, gluten-free, and bulk items... and, weirdly, a gigantic sugar section right by the checkouts.
It's a great grocery store to swing by for a loaf of bread or some fresh tomatoes or whatever on the way home to help make dinner... But I'd never recommend it for your primary grocery - you'd go bankrupt! Explore their weird stuff, like the $100 bottles of water, or the square watermelons. I don't get the Sugarfina stuff - literally expensive sugar gummies as far as I can tell - but a cashier mentioned with a shrug that they sell like crazy, so hey, whatever works. Then again, they have kangaroo sliders and emu meat in the freezers, sooooooo.....
Paired up with Costco or T&T across the creek, or Buy-Low or No-Frills up the hill, Urban Fare adds a neat flavour... if you...
