Pure Nail Bar — Local services in Vancouver

A friend and I booked appointments in advance for a Mani/Pedi combo. We arrived about 10 minute early choose our colors and we were directed to our chairs... The whole manicure and pedicure lasted less than 20 minutes. It was the bare minimum they could do and still call it a pedicure. After the very rushed service we were left in the drying fans for over 40 minutes, someone finally came to let my friend out but didn't even acknowledge me (we were the only customers in there). After about 5 minutes we had to ask one of the three girls chatting in the front to come and let me out as well. After paying both of us noticed our nails and toes were not painted very well. Two of mine were smudged with little bits of polish on the cuticle and one of my nails had a hair painted into it. Also, my nails chipped by the second day so I ended up removing the polish and repainting them anyway, as well as touching up the filing etc.

On top of all of this they charged us for the full manicure and pedicure which should be at least an hour long service; an hour of actual cuticle care and pampering, not 15-20 of a rushed foot soak and polish with 40 minutes of sitting in a drying fan.

Overall, I would definitely not recommended this place. We chose it because the prices were slightly higher than some of the cheaper places we've tested out, and we were expecting a slightly more professional and pampering service. However, we ended up with a worse more rushed polish and service then a $20-$30 place.

TLDR: bad service, rushed, horrible polish job, way over priced. For both of our manicures and pedicures. If I could give less then 1 star I...

A “just fine” experience. The girl at the front desk was nice. The selection of nail polish is extensive and I found the colour I wanted. I didn’t like that I was put on the couch and had to awkwardly put my hand over myself to the girl that was doing my manicure. I wish they had placed me in the one of the open chairs just across from me. Overall, I felt relatively well taken care of, despite being on the couch.

The biggest problem for me, and the reason I will not be coming back, is that my polish chipped within 24 hours of application. (I was not doing anything out of the ordinary.) Whatever top coat they use is not good. They also used a spray and it didn’t seem to help. My nails were very chipped within 48 hours; three nails were completely bare. I ended up taking it off by the 3rd day. I understand its just normal nail polish, not gel, but I’ve never had it chip within 1 day. I was very disappointed since the original application looked GORGEOUS. The girl who did my manicure did a wonderful application, but unfortunately, it just chipped so easily.

I will also say that I don’t like that they use a motorized buffer. I’d rather have my nails hand buffed as the motorized ones are rough, even with the lightest touch. I’m getting regular nail polish, not acrylic, so I don’t see a need for a motorized buffer.

There’s a lot of great reviews, and I wish I could give more specialized stars for certain aspects.

Pros: they did a fantastic job on my (tiny!) nails, and accommodated my allergy to most moisturizers - though they did accidentally use the wrong moisturizer first but quickly cleaned it off and switched to the second. They did mix up my service (pedi instead of mani), but quickly switched it up when I corrected them.

Cons: All the tools were covered in nail dust and the trays were dirty, which makes me a little concerned about the cleanliness overall. The atmosphere is good if what you want is just to sit on your phone, but it felt a little strange to have my nails done over a pillow when everyone else was at a table. Like I said though, they did a good job.

Overall: if you want quick and efficient services for a matching price, Pure is good. If you want proof of cleanliness and atmosphere, this is maybe not your place (but to get that, also be prepared...
