I'm really sad to have to do this (because I am a huge long time fan of Peaceful) but they definitely earned this bad review last night at the 4th Ave location. We ordered 5 dishes including dan dan noodles. All came out relatively fast but the dan dan took much longer. When they finally came they were not made with hand-dragged noodles but rather with some sort of commercial noodle straight out of a packet. The noodles were all the same size, thin, square shaped and mushy. No human can drag like that! Is Peaceful no longer a hand-crafted noodle joint?? So we asked the waitress why they were different than usual. She then asked the manager, and came back saying the person who dragged the noodles had left earlier so he didn't know. I then replied to her that these were clearly noodles from a packet and that trying to pass them off as handmade was treating me like an idiot. She went off again saying that she would ask the manager to cancel them from our bill and came back again agreeing to that, but then stating that this is now how the dan dan noodles are made and has been for a long time now. So if that's the case why was this not their first answer and why did I just have the same dish at another location a few weeks ago with the real noodles. I don't go to the Kits location that often (because of distance) and have good memories of it, but if this is now the noodle norm, then no more thanks. I don't actually think it is and think they just ran out but felt it would be better to try passing these as a backup onto us and then poorly covering up for them with lies. They may even have run out to buy them and that is why the dish took so long to come. Whatever the truth is, I'll try my absolute best to avoid this location from now on. I'll keep going to others and hope this never happens in any of them. I'm attaching a picture of our leftovers. I wish I had taken a picture in the bowl which really showed how thin the...
Read moreI'm not sure what happened exactly, but I went this week after work, and everything seemed a little bit better than in the past, but it could be just me. Xiao long bao were a tiny bit better (thinner skin but still structurally stable, more soup?). Service was more efficient and friendlier. It was still fairly busy. The food did take a bit longer to come out this time though. I had two dishes that I don't think I've had there before. Hand-pulled noodles with stewed lamb, woods ear mushroom. It was fine. I asked for chili oil to give it a bit more interest, but it was a huge portion of noodles and the light broth was nice. It's a mild (bland, but not in a bad way) dish that's good to pair with something more intense. The other dish I tried was a really flavourful eggplant, potato, green and red bell peppers stir fry dish with a dark sauce. It had onions and garlic cloves, and was quite greasy, but that's the restaurant style for stir fry. I think the chunks of potatoes were deep-fried first, and had a nice crispy surface. Eggplant was fully cooked but maintained their shape. I've come here several times before to get their dumplings, and I'm just excited that they are slightly better than I remember. Hope this keeps up. Or maybe I just have to come on the right day of the week. I went on a Sunday night early in the evening before it...
Read moreWe have been to peaceful restaurant a couple of times, both times eat in. Despite the fact that they are deeply lacking in hospitality and view the guest as an unfortunate bi-product of owning a restaurant, the food has been very tasty. Tonight we ordered the food to go. We ordered a mandarin chicken and rice, Dan Dan noodles and a cilantro salad. The chicken was missing the main ingredient - chicken. Instead it was a huge ball of batter with a tiny mushy bit of processed chicken inside. The rice was so overcooked that it took on the texture of mash. It was old reheated rice cooked so long that it is no longer recognizable as rice. The cilantro salad was ok but nothing to write home about. The managers immediate response was not an apology or any sort of interest in my complaint but that I should come back and prove to them my food is bad and I will get a refund. I won’t bother to do this, it’s not about the money, it’s simply about recognizing that standards have slipped, and a simple apology would have sufficed, instead no one cared and no one apologized. For an establishment that lacks so strongly in hospitality it is vital the food offering is top. Sorry to say it’s not. Management is sadly not invested...
