On Friday, Sept. 23, I went into Sura with my mom with high expectations as my mom raved about the beef bone and squash dish and how there would be line-ups for both the Downtown and Richmond locations. I don't know what the hype is about. Other than the nice decor, I really didn't like anything about Sura. The food was super expensive (they raised their price substantially) for subpar taste.
First of all, they only gave us 3 side dishes to start: kimchi, extremely salty seaweed and weird sweet tasting fried squid. Most Korean restaurants serve more than 3 side dishes.
Second, the seafood pancakes tasted very different from any ones I have ever tasted. It was soggy inside, was flaky and not solid and there was way more fried panko than filling. And for a whopping $28 + tax?!
The beef bones and squash were ok although my mom said that this time, the beef was overcooked and therefore lost its taste compared to when she had it before. Definitely not worth $39 + tax!
When I asked the server to switch from the pancakes to the rice rakes with beef and veggies, the server said that that's not possible as the food will be wasted. That's absurd as whenever I was not satisfied with the food at a restaurant, I would always get the dish/plate exchanged free of charge.
After talking to the manager, we were able to get the dish changed. However, to our dismay, the rice cakes and the whole dish itself tasted really awful. It was way too sweet and salty and there was too much sesame oil which made the whole dish taste burnt. My mom and I couldn't eat the dish at all. More food wasted! There was no apology at all from the server or the manager for the awful tasting food! I also had a horribly painful cramp when I slept that night and the following morning. I suspect that it's 'cause of the fatty and oily food that I ate. Whoever the chef that night was should be fired! Never again are we going back to Sura. It's unbelievable how 2 awful...

Read moreOMG, I used to really love SURA but today my dinning experience is WORST and totally Horrible!! I've ordered the Large Size of Galbi Jjim for two people because it was my favorite dish. However, as soon I got served, I realized the texture of Galbi and Recipe has been completely changed! Also, worst part was Quality of the Short Ribs. Meat was Definitely NOT FRESH and Smell was so BAD! Smells like unwashed puppy fur for several weeks from the short ribs... Eww... Anyways, I've asked the server that what was the issue with the Short Rib quality and Recipe, and she took the Galbi JJim to the kitchen and confirm with the chef and came back within couple of mins or less (almost instantly) and explained this. Server said, Well, the Recipe has been changed for 3 months, and "SO FAR" no one complaint about the meat quality and odor therefore there is no issue with the short ribs, thus, "PLEASE ENJOY THE DISH". Excuse me?? There is quality issue that me and my buddy have.. that's why we could not eat it and asked you for your help? Also I asked them to smell it but they completely denial. I felt they treated us like, it is our own problem that we could smell the odor and nothing wrong with their new recipe so don't complaint about it. Ended up we left whole dish and paid the full amount of $ after we talked to the server. I don't mind to paying it but how to dealing with the customer's feedback of the food quality turn into "THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM" attitude makes me quite upset. Lack of communication with staffs and I probably won't go back to SURA Again. I am very sad that I lost one of my favorite...
