This was a perfect place for a casual rainy day dinner. The atmosphere was so welcoming and cozy, and the food was hearty and comforting. Our server was so friendly! The format of the dishes is all Mexican staples (burritos, tacos, etc) but I feel that the flavours were not really Mexican. This is not a bad thing, though, because it's great food, just don't come here for "authentic" Mexican. They're doing their own thing. My friend and I got chips and salsa to start off. The "small" size chips and salsa is still pretty big and was more than enough for 2. We took almost half the chips home, so I'd say this could comfortably serve 3-4 if you just want the chips as a light appetizer. I like their salsa a lot. It had a fresh vegetal flavour which was a little unusual but good. And we were a little surprised to find that the bowl of orange sauce placed next to the salsa that looked a little like squash puree was actually hot sauce! I really liked the hot sauce too - it is spicy but has enough "volume" of other flavours that you can heap it on to get the best effect. I had the spicy walnut lentil enchiladas with salsa verde for my entree. I got the vegan version, which just changes out real cheese for vegan Daiya cheese. The "spicy" descriptor is best understood as "well-seasoned" and not "hot", because I didn't think the enchiladas were hot at all, but they did have a really nice deep and earthy flavour. They were quite filling. The salsa verde was delicious. Personally I'm not the biggest fan of Daiya cheese (it's a little goopy to me), but I did think they baked it well and had the right balance with the amount of cheese. I ordered this with the side salad which was beautiful and came with a tasty vinaigrette. The whole dish was very filling and definitely good value. I got a glass of horchata to drink too, which was creamy and lovely! Loved the foamy cap. Overall the place leaves me with a very positive impression and I'd be...
Read moreUpdated in July 2024: They still have great food, but the portion sizes have really decreased in the span of a year! I remember the size of my Ronny Russell bowl during the first visit I made to The Burrow. It was packed full and so filling! The last image is from today. The takeout container slipped to one side in my bag, but you can tell the drastic decrease in size based on the empty space! I thought for a moment they forgot to fill half of the container when I opened it! The roasted yams were also kind of burnt and the rice was so scarce. I went for brunch and really enjoyed their Willow Bowl, however, so may have to make that dish my new favourite after today's disappointment. Service is still wonderful.
Mid-2023: The Plant Curious book brought me here for the first time, and my family is officially a fan! Due to gluten and various ingredient sensitivities, I had the Ronny Russell burrito as a bowl, and it was so good (even without the beans and salsa). Their mock guac is edamame-based, and while it doesn't have the exact creaminess as the "real" guacamole, it's slightly earthier and still amazing. The purple cabbage has the perfect texture and tang! The Ronny Russell was our favourite taco (the roasted yam works!), but all of them were packed with flavour and filling. 3 tacos would be suitable for a meal. Wasn't sure how their portion sizes would be, but was pleasantly surprised! We did take out, but the vibes were casual and homey inside. With the Plant Curious book, our meal was 50% off, but at regular price it's more than reasonable for a lunch/dinner. Already excited to come back...
Read moreAmazing service, great food, pleasant atmosphere with fun artwork. Everything can be made VEGAN AND GLUTEN FREE!
I went there not knowing much about it, first time going and i had a great experience. When you walk in you are greeted by the beautiful atmosphere in the room. Lots of paintings on the walls depicting scenes, and lots and lots of animals! There is lots of seating and a place near the door where you can buy frozen foods / treats.
The service was perfection. Liv our server did an amazing job at helping us choose just what we were looking for, she gave personal recommendations as well that where just to our liking. She had knowledge of the menu which helped a lot in our deciding of what to eat. Overall our experience there wouldn't be the same if the service wasn't some of the best service i have ever experienced.
The food came fast that we could barely keep up until our table became overcrowded, and it was all delicious. Everything on the menu can be made Vegan and Gluten free which was very shocking to me. They have their own Vegan sour cream, Vegan cheeses, and others. They also have an Edamame based Guacamole which had a unique flavor i would recommend trying for yourself. I highly recommend trying the Spicy Nachos, the Ronny Russel, and the side beans, rice, and salad was delicious.
I highly recommend checking this place out as it fits all the dietary restrictions. It earns a massive plus from being a restaurant that can serve an all Vegan and Gluten free menu as well. I would love to someday see this place be an only Vegan menu, but a man can...
