The food was okay, but the fries were amazing. The service was okay until our server changed. See below for an explanation of the terrible customer service we received.
They were confused about what we ordered from the beginning. One of our friends had to wait for his food because they messed it up twice. Not just once, but twice. Instead of asking us if we wanted our bill separated, they put all of the food together for a 13 person party... Near the end of our meal, our server changed to someone from the head office in Toronto. You would think he would know what he was doing, but NO not at all. He kept saying "oh I don't know what she did" or "I don't know why she did this" but he was absolutely terrible. He had to deal with our bill and he took five minutes trying to figure out who got what. Almost 20 minutes later (this was after we had already waited 20 minutes for him to even come ask us if we wanted our bill... which he didn't do), he comes back with our bills and almost all of them are wrong. We had already waited so long and we had to wait even longer for this guy to come back and fix our bills. He comes back after five minutes and THEN DECIDES IT'S A GOOD TIME TO DO WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE FROM THE BEGINNING: he asks us what we got and writes down our orders! After another 15 minutes of waiting for him to come with our bills, one of our friends tried talking to him and he raised his hand to her face and said he was working on it... After another 10 minutes, we decided enough was enough and we went to the front. Funnily enough, he still wasn't done figuring out our bills. We got no discounts, no compensation, nothing. This restaurant lost multiple customers today and people should be worried about how much of their time will be wasted when they go here. They should have kept our original server because she...
Read moreIf you want to be completely blindsided with a $100 bill without any communication or consideration from the staff, this is your place! Be warned of the "seasonal" pricing and of the very rude serving staff that works there. My husband and I went for lunch there yesterday, and the server (who barely spoke English or knew any of the items on the menu) messed up our order twice than gave us a $100 bill. I am not a cheap person by any means, but to receive a lunch bill that high when all we ordered were 4 items, two of them being $4 sides with waters.. it was very shocking. There was never any mention of pricing from the server, or any communication at all.. how can you communicate with costumers when you barely speak the language of the country you live/work in.. there are bound to be issues. The real kicker for me was after my shock of the bill, how the staff very poorly handled it. After my request to speak to a manager, which wasn't there, I was told that it was MY fault. I was ganged up on by 5 members of the serving staff, who all still could barely form a sentence in English, and all they could do was to tell me that it was again MY fault for not asking the right questions. I asked them if the servers informed costumers of their pricing, the server told me "some do and some don't", which just shows the lack of consistency throughout the serving team and the restaurant. Since no one offered to do anything to our bill, let alone apologize.. we paid the full bill and left. Overall, food was good, but the entire experience was horrible due to the staff. I will never go back to Captain's Boil and will let everyone know of my experience. Thanks for almost ruining a...
Read moreA couple weeks ago we had dinner here and while the seafood was undeniably delicious, my experience was tainted by something completely avoidable—Poor Management Priorities.
Me and my family were not new to this restaurant and previously had uncomfortable experience using the transparent plastic gloves while eating, so I asked the waitress if I could have the blue gloves instead of the standard transparent ones, as they are much more comfortable and durable.
She was kind enough to provide me with a pair, which I really appreciated. However, later on, I was made aware that the supervisor/manager reprimanded her, saying that she shouldn’t have given me the blue gloves because they were “more expensive.”
That reasoning makes absolutely no sense. The restaurant charges premium prices for its seafood, so the cost of a pair blue gloves are negligible in comparison. More importantly, a restaurant’s focus (aside from the food) should be on customer experience and enjoyment, not cutting costs in ways that diminish comfort. Instead of ensuring I enjoyed my meal, the manager prioritized saving a few cents over guest satisfaction or maybe a power trip — something that no high-end restaurant should be doing.
To be clear, the food itself was great, and the waitress was wonderful (as for the waitress, you did nothing wrong. You did better than your supervisor/manager).
But management’s approach left a bad taste in my mouth and to the people that were with me that night. A restaurant that charges top dollar should understand that customer comfort is just as important as the food itself. Management needs to get their...
