I will not lie the drinks were good. What earned this place 1 star was the service. To begin, the service was sub par to begin with, but it only goes down from here. The waitress was nice at first, she was friendly. As the night progressed, she became more and more rude and by the end it was unbelievable. When asked for split bills, she scoffed as if it was such a challenge to split the bill two ways. Then when she returned, she had conveniently added an automatic gratuity of 20% to our bill (of 4 people). This gratuity, for drinks only, was over $40. When I asked about it, she immediately grabbed the bills off of the table and said she would be back with new bills. She brought the new, correct bills out and I proceeded to pay. Now normally I have no issue with tipping well, 18-20% is normal, but due to the lack of service and attempt at collecting a nice tip for herself without even informing us of the automatic gratuity that she had applied, I decided to tip a bit less. As soon as I tipped less than the $40 dollars that was expected, she came back to the table and complained about how the tip was not enough for her. In all of my years, I haven't ever has a waiter or waitress complain about a tip that was given to them. Everyone is always grateful and appreciative of what is given, expect for this waitress, her name (based off of the receipt) is Elle. Not only will I NEVER return, but I warn every other person looking for a good night out......
Read moreFirst came here upon moving back again to the Wet Costly 💥 Coast in Winter 2014. It was in my Commercial hood and I dug the dive bar aesthetic, typically solid, eclectic rock n' roll and all-grub 🍔🌮 / all-the-time cheaper than typical pricing (and decent to boot.) BUT...the booze (particularly beer) is stoopid💍 pricey for a dive type bar & grill. Came in a few months ago and ordered a basic lager tap brew 🍺 (nothing foreign exotic) and closed off the tab w/ a tall can 'o PBR. So two items ordered, no chow, and the total was $17! And being a nice, agreeable 🇨🇦 I left a tip (*always put a rubber on Mr. Jimmy!) and split for the streets. With that tip the total for a few mediocre beers was just north of $20. When the bar dude left the bill I stopped him and asked if this was a hidden camera type gag tv series I was on, or did I awaken in a cruel redux world where ho hum beer is treated like gold. He looked cooly back @ me (if only the suds were as chilled) and shared: "This is the price to drink twice..." Sure agreed, at a gooddamn freshmaker dance club on Granville St. but mannnn! Not in a dive bar on the Drive currently pushing out The Doors on their pretty decent bar side speaker system. In short -- price the liquid $hit outz before committing. You all have a cool idea here @TheDime but the brouhaha bounty behind domestic brewskis is ridick. I'll be back and this time a cocktail will have to...
Read moreReal folks down here and I do like this place and most of the servers except one new one. Night was going great. Myself and my partner had a few drinks here. When it was time to leave we literally received a bill for literally double the drinks we had here then when I didn't tip upon paying the bill because it of this the bartender proceeded to have a hissy fit that he was going to lose 10% of his pay. I suppose he was trying to embarrass us into paying him a tip when he knew full well he double charged us. He freaked out because we noticed he was overcharging us. We didn't make any scene aside from his freak out though we definitely agreed among us it was double. I paid him the bill without tip knowing full well it was double and we left. This server seems new and the server before him was great. This is the first time in 30 years I've chosen not to tip. This was last night. He was wearing a black shirt with neon Nike logo on it. Doubled our bill which we still paid then freaked out and screamed at us when we didn't tip him. Embarassing to say the least. Usually a great time here. Never ok behaviour for a bartender ever. Definitely not ok for a bartender who is trying to fleece us. Extremely...
