I’ve been to Tractor Foods several times and usually enjoy the food, but my experience at the Robson Street location today left me frustrated and disappointed.
I ordered a build-your-own salad bowl to go - power greens, snap pea & potato mint side, and half chicken breast. My total came to $17.
This confused me because just yesterday at their Pender Street location, I ordered almost the same thing - power greens, snap pea & potato mint side, and harissa chicken (full portion) — and my bill was $16.
The staff member who made my bowl rang it in as an Everyday Bowl with half chicken breast. I explained that I had ordered build-your-own, not the Everyday Bowl.
A man (possibly a manager) then stepped in and told me that the build-your-own bowl and Everyday Bowl are “the same.” I questioned the math, just the power greens + one side is around $12? He then suggested maybe yesterday’s cashier “missed adding a side.”
Since it was the lunch rush, I didn’t want to hold up the line. But when I got home, I checked their own website. Ordering the exact same items for pickup at the same Robson location came to around $13 not $17.
It’s not about the $2.50–$3 difference. It’s about the fact that despite me pointing it out multiple times, two or three staff members insisted the higher charge was correct. That’s concerning. These are standard menu items they sell every day how do you not know the correct price?
It left me feeling like customers are either being misinformed or overcharged. And that’s not okay.
Quick update on above review - 08/07
Just wanted to give a quick update - Tractor actually reached out after my last post. They were super understanding, apologized for the situation, and even offered a refund I wasn’t expecting that, but it shows they care.
Also, shoutout to Edward who made my bowl the second time — he was super friendly...
Read moreGreat place for refreshingly healthy eats downtown. I mostly do the build-your-own salad bowls, where you can combine a variety of interesting "salads" with a base and optional protein of your choosing. The chili-lime tofu, my go-to, is grilled fresh and juicy with a tangy marinade. I find these bowls very filling, but the price adds up quickly as you add more salad scoops, so I find it best to be conservative with my estimate of how much I think I need to eat. Besides the salad bowls, they have some hot entrees. I tried the Moroccan chickpea hot bowl and the tomato soup and both were a little bland, which was especially disappointing for something labelled "Moroccan". I would go back and try some different entrees to see if anything else is better, but I would say the salads are likely the best choice here. They have a limited selection of "healthy" baked goods too. I really liked the chocolate pistachio cookie. As you would expect, it's significantly less sweet and has a slightly drier texture than a regular cookie, but if you like that kind of "better for you" treat, it's good. Very cocoa-forward. I've had good experiences with the service. The staff is friendly enough and usually pretty fast. It's counter service, but they'll usually bring your food to you at your table. There's a good amount of seating inside and a few tables outside when the weather allows. It's...
Read moreTractor is dope! Massively underrated as a supplier of efficient, fresh and super yummy healthy grub in a plentiful and well presented portion. When I say healthy, I don't mean leaves like those pathetic salads.. they have a great range of options for healthy fats, wholesome ingredients and wholegrain options. One of the reason for my visits was how they have been able to integrate vegan options into the market green selections. I had both vegan Fig and Farro and Southwest Quinoa options with the Chilli Lime Tofu. Absolutely delicious!! I wolfed it down in minutes. The Tofu was marinated very well and the market options and power greens were super crisp, crunchy and fresh for sure. Plenty og flavor and exciting fragrances. Their market options are rad, very innovative and edgy I can't wait to try others. The joint itself could do with a bit of a clean, upkeep but is in a great location and has outdoor seating. Staff service also made me feel very rushed which was quite uncomfortable. Aside from the aesthetics and service, this was sweet! It is on the more expensive side as anyone who cooks, knows how much it'd take to whip this up. That's literally my one downfall is all. Tractor... some in house hot sauce...
