I have been to this location for so many years since I was a child with my family. It was always a good experience - staff are friendly, attentive, and food hits the spot.
HOWEVER, today I have had the worst experience with service. I’m sad that it happened at a restaurant I’ve been so fond of since childhood. It only takes once..
I made a reservation for 9 (to celebrate my friends’ graduation), and our server was Harry. I get people can have a bad day, but he was, quite frankly, rude to us and very inattentive. Here’s what happened:
Two of us asked for hot water instead of cold water. He takes the cold water back and brings out the hot water. We asked for lemon - he rolled his eyes. I get it - people have bad days. I let that slide.
My friend ordered the new curry item. He came back some time later to say there’s no more. She was replying to him and he just walked away. She was definitely loud enough to be heard…
I raised my hand for service - wanted to refill fries and get vinegar. It took over 15 minutes - I kid you not - for our server to come. How it happened is the craziest part of the night. Another server tried to get his attention to our table but he ignored her. Then some time later (at this point it’s been so long that it was unacceptable), the table he was serving actually helped us out by FLAGGING TO HIM that we were asking for him for a long time. ONLY THEN does he come over..
I asked for extra fries and vinegar - he asks what kinda of vinegar to which I couldn’t hear clearly, so I asked him to please repeat. His response was brash, loud, and clearly aggressive.
However, when we used our neighbourhood card for the bill, his attitude changed right away. He was nice and all now, probably since he realized we’re regulars. This does not make up for anything.
It is so terrible that a night that was supposed to be a celebration of our graduation was ruined by one server. The restaurant is such a neighbourhood gem but sadly not anymore.
Sorry for the long review - I genuinely love coming here but today was an experience that I...
Read moreI've been a regular customer at this location for quite some time, and overall, my experience has been very hit or miss—it really depends on the day. For example, during one recent visit, the eggs Benedict and hash browns were served cold and mushy. Although I was disappointed, I ate them anyway since the food had taken a long time to arrive and I didn’t want to wait any longer. The waitress only checked in once during the entire meal. On a more positive note, my most recent visit was much better—the food was warm, the hash browns were perfectly crispy, and the waiter was friendly and attentive.
However, I do want to bring up a concern I've noticed consistently over the years. When I visit with white or Asian friends, we are typically seated in the booth area, which is noticeably cleaner and quieter. But when I go with friends or family who are brown, we’re almost always seated on the bar side, which tends to be louder and less clean. This pattern has been happening for years.
On my last visit, I even observed a brown family and a white family arrive at nearly the same time. Despite there being plenty of open tables, the brown family was directed to the bar side, while the white family was seated in the booth section.
I always tip generously—18% or more—and my party typically places straightforward orders with bills over $80. I’m not sure whether this seating pattern is a result of individual bias from the host staff or an unwritten policy at this location, but it’s disheartening to feel consistently segregated. Everyone deserves an equal dining experience, and I hope this issue can be acknowledged and addressed. I’d simply like the same chance to sit in the booth area as...
Read moreI have always enjoyed visiting a number of White Spot locations in Vancouver and Burnaby, but the service at Kerrisdale location today was subpar compared to the other ones.
The server was impatient and did not wait for me to finish my order. It was not rush hour as half the restaurant was empty. After ordering food I wanted to order a drink but he cut my line and just said "ice water?" as if he thought I was too cheap to order a drink. He didnt even give me a chance to order. So, sure, ice water, I wont order more, why should I spend more money on you. Throughout the meal, service was at the absolute minimum.
The burger bun that came was not nice and puffy, it looked deflated like it had been sitting out there for awhile.
At the end we couldn't finish our meal (they taste good, we just couldn't finish due to the portion, not that I'm complaining about that), but he just came and asked if we want the check, didn't ask if we wanted a box, or anything else. I felt like I was being rushed out instead of being served. Not sure if they deserved even 15% tips.
If anyone thinks I'm being nitpicking, it's probably cuz I've been spoiled by other WS locations. I usually have pretty good experiences at other WS.
Giving 3 stars bcoz I still like the food for the most part. I still love White Spot and would love to come back, but please do a little better. Id love to give a higher...
