My hubby drives to Toronto often, usually bi weekly for work & he regularly stops to buy me Ela’s. He buys the big 24 pack & usually about a quarter of them are stale & crunchy but the rest are soft and slightly chewy the way a macaron should be. Yesterday he stopped & he said two men were working the booth. Every. Single. Macaron. Is. Unedible. They are hard as rocks. When you bite them they shatter and crumble all over you. He spent $60 on these and they are awful. I tested all of them with my nail after we ate the first 3 and they were terrible. Every one is hard as a rock. Wish I could attach a photo. I always was reasonable about some being stale like this, which is still not acceptable, but ALL TWENTY FOUR??? We will never buy from Ela’s again. We live 3.5 hours away & clearly they don’t care about the quality of their product.
I’d also like to add…my macarons came in a plastic holder that had a homemade label on it that said “Birthday Cake”. And a best before label for 2024……..so I’m assuming this package was used to transport the birthday cake flavour to the store from wherever they are made & then they tackily reused it for my order. Also that best before date is concerning. Clearly these are not made fresh. They are frozen & thawed. Which may explain why the...
Read moreEla's Macarons sells individual macarons, pre-packed assorted boxes of 3, custom boxes of 6, or custom boxes of 12. I bought the custom box of 6 for $16.40 with tax. For some odd reason, the box of 6 could only fit 5 macarons so the worker put the 6th macaron into a ziplock bag which was awkward to carry and honestly, really cheapened the experience. Of the 6 macarons that I purchased 3 were rock-hard, 2 were chewy and stale, and 1 was soft and creamy. Some were bold and tasty (like Birthday Cake & Cotton Candy) while some were subtle to the point of non-existentence. For the steep price, you'd expect the macarons to be fresh. Very disappointed, especially because some of the flavours were really great. However, I wouldn't waste my money on potentially rock-hard...
Read moreI had to make a stop at this delightful bakeshop to sate my craving for sweets and Cheesecake Factory cakes.
They only sell cake slices here and the moist layers of sponge soaked in rich velvet frosting are just as I remember.
Macarons and cookies had a nice balance of outside crispness, inside softness, and all the flavours were unique.
The milkshakes were a bit of a letdown. The chocolate chip milkshake tasted amazing until it melted a bit and grew a weird aftertaste of dirty tap water. I suggest asking for less or no ice when you order a milkshake.
It was pretty busy, but the friendly staff was ready to assist me in making my selection as a first-timer. I recommend them if you're nearby and want some cookies, macarons, and Cheesecake...
