The food is delicious, unfortunately I had to leave a 1 star review for the TERRIBLE treatment and discrimination I recently received. Before entering the restaurant, I read the sign on their door that read, "Mask or face covering required". At the very bottom of this sign, the fine print reads:
"Exceptions include people who cannot wear a mask for medical reasons, or children under two years old, or those who require accommodation in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code. Proof of medical condition is not required"
When entering, the gentleman working there asked me to put on a mask. I informed him that I cannot, as I am medically exempt. He told me to go and buy a face shield.. I also informed them that refusing service to an individual who is medically exempt is a violation of the Ontario Human Rights Code. He continued to give me a hard time, and eventually agreed to serve me (after humiliating me in front of the people waiting to place their order after me). As the gentleman was preparing my food, this lady from the back kitchen came to the front and decided to attempt to further humiliate me by adding, "next time, call to place an order and we will serve you outside!" I was speaking very politely and respectfully to the people working here. It is very disheartening to see a business operating without proper procedure and following the rules that they are posting on their own door.. Not to mention violating the OHRC.
This is private property yes, but it is open to the public. Businesses are still required to operate in accordance with the Ontario Regulation, and the OHRC (see below):
Section 1: Every person has a right to equal treatment with respect to services, goods and facilities, without discrimination because of race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, family status or disability.
Very disappointed with the treatment I received and did not feel...
Read moreHorrible service. I asked the guy for a snapper meal with rice and peas and a salad and he said okay. I then paid for the meal and TIPPED him and when I was walking to my car I realized he forgot the fish. So I go back and ask him for the fish and he said he didn’t charge. He only charged for rice and peas and a salad so I’m like okay please charge me for the fish. He refused to charge me for just the fish. He said he would only charge me for an entire meal which made no sense because again he already gave me the salad and rice and peas. He was trying to charge me $18.50 for the meal when it’s said $14.50 on the menu. I complained and he said he would give me $2 off. This is the worst customer service ever. If the complete snapper meal is $14.50 and he charged me $7 for the rice and salad he should have deducted the $7 from the total. That is the most fair thing to do.,. Or even consider that I dropped a tip. So disgusted. That would have been the right thing to do, he is clearly more concerned about a few dollars than prioritizing customer service. Again the first thing I asked when I went in was for snapper which he said it’s king fish and then changed it back to snapper. Oh ya.. the best part is he’s supposedly the manager. I have bought lunch there before as it’s close to my work. Everyone there just seems miserable. I won’t be supporting this business again. There are more customer service oriented places near by like the wimpys or the shawarma spot. So disturbed. Certain people should not own businesses. This is a customer service industry. Your customers help keep your business alive. At least be fair! I didn’t even ask for a free meal! I was okay paying the different but not almost x3 the price of my salad and rice.. If you’re going to stop by maybe avoid going around weekday evenings 6/7pm to avoid this guy. I ended up throwing the food in...
Read moreMy fav Carribean spot in Toronto. What you need to know: If you’re a pasta salad fan, this place has the best one I’ve had anywhere in the world. It is addictive. You know when you have something that’s so unique and good, and you think “this must be some sort of special family recipe”? This pasta salad is it. Whenever I go I buy extra. Jerk chicken and oxtail are both fantastic. Great flavours. Ox tail pieces are well-sized, too, relative to what you sometimes get at other places. Not cheap ($16-$18 for the cup of it) but you get what you pay for, for a change. Their hot sauce is probably the hottest hot sauce I’ve ever had. And I’m somebody who grew up with Koreans and Chinese folks (numbing spice iykyk), have had my fair share of real Thai, and indulge in Hot Ones sauces regularly. This is the only sauce that will immediately give me hiccups if I have more than a droplet. A lot of hot sauces build up on you; this one is like a punch. I recommend taking a tiny amount and spreading it out to lightly dab it. Really nice flavour when it doesn’t overwhelm. Good variety of drinks to go with your meal. Get a peanut punch if you’ve never tried such a thing, imo good complement to the spice and flavours. Not really a dine-in spot in terms of vibe, but there’s more than enough room if you want to, maybe about 4-6 tables that can each handle 4 or so people.
I think it’s telling that you get all manner of people coming in and many sound like devout regulars. Maybe you’ll become one,...
