I have been to MANY Indian restaurants in the GTA, but I can’t believe I didn’t come to this place sooner! I started working in the area now, so I’ll be visiting this place more often!
We ordered: Paneer Tikka Sizzling Platter - $16.99 [Paneer was fresh/soft and flavour was simply AMAZING];
Mix Tikka Sizzling Platter (It comes with Chicken Tikka, Haryali Tikka, and Malai Tikka) - $19.99 [All of them were great, but my fav was Red Chicken Tikka]
Dal Tadka - $13.99 [Yummy garlic flavour with red chilli tadka]
Butter Naan - $2.49/piece [One of the best naans I have tried in GTA. Soft and thin! Simply wow!!!]
Chicken Biriyani - $15.99 [I had not found an authentic Indian Biriyani in GTA, but finally I can say this is what I had been looking for decades in Toronto]!
After each item, we were just amazed at how well the food was prepared, and the customer service was simply superb! The server constantly checked at our table to make sure if everything was okay. Also, I noticed that the Chef’s helper was delivering the food at each table, and his etiquette really blew me away. For example, he had one hand at the back when inquiring at every table and when pouring water or delivering food, he had a way of doing it which was very elegant/professional! As I said, I have been to many restaurants, but I never had such an amazing experience at any Indian restaurants. This is what I call a FINE DINING EXPERIENCE! I don’t mind paying a bit extra for such a positive ambiance/experience!
So, if you want to celebrate someone’s special day, this is the place! Trust me - you won’t regret it!
I normally don’t write any reviews unless the experience was horrible. However, this time it is special! Also, I went out of my way to convey my gratitude to the chef and the entire team for making our dining experience so memorable...
Read moreWe expected a great meal from online reviews but were disappointed. Some dishes were good, offset by some notably bad, compounded by inattentive, poorly timed and seemingly uncaring service.
We began with papadums (a comically skimpy serving--"2 pieces" is one cracked in half), the mixed veg appetizer platter plus pani puri. The onion bhajia were burnt, the samosas very bland, the rest of the platter okay. In contrast the pani puri was very good and artfully plated, but it came well after the platter. We'd barely started to eat it when out came the entrees, which we had them take back until we were ready.
For mains (plus rice, naan, chutney, pickles) we chose chicken Korma and lamb Madras. The Korma had good flavour but little chicken. It was mostly sauce. The lamb was generous chunks of tender meat in a tasty sauce, but lacking the expected heat of a proper Madras curry. The menu rated its heat 3 out of 5 (their apparent max--I saw no items rated 4 or 5) but my heat-averse lady tried it and found it mild.
Desserts were tasty but Chai tea took glaringly long, explained as needing to "cook the tea." Oh? Never heard that before. It wasn't even good when it finally came in a really small cup; too heavy on pepper. I make better at home from Chai tea bags, no cooking required.
There were several other notable service and courtesy lapses, no need to detail them all, but in sum alienating. The staff seemed more interested in prepping place settings and chatting in the service alcove than in attending to guests.
We're always looking for good new Indian options in the north end and hoped Raj Mahal would be one, but we...
Read moreI don't usually post reviews but this one is well worth it. I've looked around for restaurants that have authentic Indian cuisine and am glad to have found this one recently- Raj Mahal is absolutely incredible!!! The food served here is sublime and the persons working here are truly caring!:)
I tried the lamb biryani (medium spice) for the first time last night and it was delicious! The rice was moist and well-cooked, the lamb was soft and tender, the cashews, herbs, and seasonings complimented the meal nicely and the heat was just right- not overpowering of the flavors. And the yogurt-based side to the rice went perfectly with it! The portion size was MASSIVE- half was more than enough for dinner last night and I will eat the rest tonight
After receiving the lamb biryani, I was trying to decide whether or not to also get samosas, and the kind person working at the front counter gave away the complimentary box pictured. I was taken aback and offered to pay but they insisted that I have them on the house. That was incredibly sweet of them!!! : ) :) :) Such acts of kindness go a long way and this really reflects on the care put in to everything done here from the way the food is cooked to the outstanding service offered!:) I tried one of the samosas, which had vegetables inside, and it was nicely spiced with a bit of a kick and was yummy!
P.S. I've eaten from here before and would also highly recommend the butter chicken which tasted amazing; as well as the naans- which are fresh, delicious, and really big and filling too- great value for...
