This review is for New Year's Eve ONLY. Tickets were $225 per person. I bought two tix for the NYE event at Forty40 mainly because it was advertised as a disco themed party. It was doors open at 7 and dinner starts at 8. (Dinner actually started at 8:20 which was totally ok.) Supposed to be a welcome drink upon arrival, hors d'oeuvres, and oysters, before dinner. We arrived at 7:40 and taken to our table. There was no welcome drink, no hors d'oeuvres, no oysters. I brushed it off since we arrived at 7:40 and figured it happened a bit earlier. But the person I was with reminded me of the "welcome drink" which I had forgotten - and they were right, there should have been someone greeting you with that. I had to go up to the bar and say "wasn't there supposed to be a welcome drink?" and he said, ...you want one? Anyway, we got 2, they were meh. We went up to the bar to get other drinks as the NYE party was listed as open bar premium liquor. I asked what whiskey they have. He listed a bunch and I picked one (crown royal, for ex.) he said, oh that one's not included though, you have to pay for it. We said..huh…ok what whiskey is included? He said only Canadian Club. Jesus. The worst one. I thought this was supposed to be premium? I said, alright scratch that, can you make us some espresso martinis? He said, you have to pay for those. …So REALLY nothing is included, only bottom barrel liquors, basic drinks like "vodka soda". We definitely felt tricked/ripped off. Anyway, dinner started, the courses did look nice. Some of the items were good, some not as good, overall, decent meal. The entire space itself was not big, but it was spaced out well enough that the tables weren't crowded. They did put a table of two on the dance floor though, which clearly wasn’t well planned. Now the dance floor was very small. There was definitely too many people part of this dinner for the dance floor. The dancefloor is also RIGHT at the bar so people would be waiting on drinks/hanging out at the bar, sharing this area with the dancing area... Which leads me to one of the most odd things of the entire night. The person that I was with was really really put off by this. After about two or three hours, before the dinner was even over (the courses were spread out) random people started coming in through the doors. It was assumed that they closed off the place for the night and reserved it for us NYE event dining guests. At $225 per person they absolutely should have… So suddenly, a bunch of people started coming in, mostly young guys, crowding the bar. Mind you we were all still having our dinner... Again the space was small, so this felt kinda invasive and just odd honestly. Now the place is CROWDED. The dance floor has essentially no room. People were dancing amongst the dining tables. Not a HUGE deal, but like I said, a strange decision on the restaurant's part to not reserve this space off for the people who paid the QUITE expensive fee thinking it’s a special and private event… Also, the music changed, and it was no longer disco music but just about anything started playing. Most of the $225 guests were older crowd, and now there's rap music playing and random other younger people taking up room... Just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Also the music - for the short time that it WAS disco music, in itself it was strange: there were songs that repeated over and over. Seemed like there was a short list of a few disco songs (for a "DISCO EVENT" mind you) and they just played this list over and over again. The song September by Earth Wind & Fire played three times in 2 hours, for example. Honestly, nothing happened that was BAD BAD, but too many things happened that just shouldn't have. It was ABSOLUTELY NOT worth 225 dollars. If it was their first time doing something like this or doing a disco party I don't know, but it definitely under delivered. For what it was, they should have charged $150 per person. Then we could probably brush these things off. But for that cost, no way. The tables did look nice, and the bartender/MC was...
Read moreVery disappointment after reading many reviews before coming and looking at the menu online. We arrived on time for our reservation (party of 16). We were handed preset menus for an appetizer and main for $55/per person. We were not notified of this prior to arriving. The cost of the appetizer online was $12 and pasta was approximately $20. The same items were on this preset menu for $55. Other items on the menu were not available when we were ordering....why set up a preset menu if you do not have the food available. Who runs out of chicken on a Saturday night? Many of us were left ordering a caesar salad (with no flavour) or seafood salad which had no flavour and a lot of oil, and a pasta which was overpriced and not filling at all. Very small portions. When we asked the waitress about the menu and why the prices online were lower and why we got a set menu, she said oh, the price used to be $65.00 and we dropped the price. Not what I asked. As I asked again, she said the portions are bigger.....well, if that is the case I would hate to see what size portions were being served prior to the set menu. We left hungry. Some of us were finishing our mains before others were still getting their appetizers. Service was horrible, pricing was ridiculous and what restaurant charges $7.00 for tap water being served in a bottle. No one came around to put water in our glasses which you would think is standard in all restaurants. This restaurant asks what water you would like and when asked for tap water, they served it in a bottle and charged for it. You should be ashamed and embarrassed that you are doing this. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone and I will never return. If I could give a star less...
Read moreI cannot rave enough about Forty40! We had a combined birthday/engagement party here recently and it was beyond our expectations! I came upon Forty40 while searching for places to host and they made the process so easy and seamless from beginning to end. Joe and his family and staff are all so accommodating and caring. They were very responsive and allowed me to switch from hosting the party indoors to outdoors last minute because we decided it created a better ambiance and experience for my guests. The food was amazing! We opted for the buffet style in which Joe included so many options and variety. My guests helped themselves to 3rd and 4th plates because it was so delicious and they took desserts home in take away boxes. They have an in house DJ and MC who played great music and created an awesome vibe. The staff are incredibly friendly and our server, JP, introduced himself to me right away when I arrived and he was on point all night! He was constantly checking on my guests and asking if we needed anything. My guests made remarks about the place looking lovely, treating them well and how astounding the server was all night! A few of the guests even asked for the contact information because they want to host parties here in the future after seeing how gorgeous and successful our night was! If you're looking for a place to host a party, don't go any further and contact Forty40 right now! Their service and food was top notch and they made my life so easy and effortless. All I had to do was get ready and show up and relax with my guests. I was able to enjoy myself and focus on hosting. They will go above and...
