OMG! I guess the old adage really is true that āall good things must come to an endā! I just phoned the local Marble Slab on Disera Drive to put in an order only to find out that the store has been temporarily closed for renos and that in fact the store has been sold and a new owner has stepped in. Penny and her husband [the previous owners] were class personified. They always always treated me with the utmost love & respect. They often gave me unexpected little treats, extras and goodies with my orders- Example: free waffle cones, banana splits, sundaes, toppings- even a complimentary 1 litre bucket at times.
Over the years, it often occurred to me that these two were just genuinely kind-hearted & down-to-earth folks who couldnāt care less about making that massive profit. For them- satisfaction and success was defined as looking after their customers, making them happy, being generous in their portion sizes and toppings, going that extra distance to accommodate special needs clients like myself by driving to my home in rush-hour traffic to get my ice cream order to me [including my free sundaes] quickly before they could melt. Oh dear me, mercy me....., this is a huge loss and a very very sad day for me, becaue frnkly spekibg- owners and selfless folks like these two are a scarcity in our world.ā¦. Painfully, they are very very few and far between.
Iām not even sure if they would bother reading anymore of these reviews online, but if they do, if any of you who are close to them- please please do remind them of our love for them, our appreciation for the type of people they are and the way they conducted themselves with us (their loyal customers) on a daily basis over the years.... Iām deeply saddened Pennyš- people like you and your dear hubby are indeed hard to find, and it is so sad because this world desperately needs a lot more like you..... It is for this reason and so many others that youāll be so sorely sorely missed. You remain in my heart and prayers.... Whatever you do, whatever heās jiyrney it project you embark on, whatever new route you take: Continued success, peace &...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen we lived in the area we used to come here as the staff was great and they had lactose free ice cream. Unfortunately we live 30 min east now and there are only two marble slabs close by and they dont have the lactose free option just the dairy free which she has never tried as they are usually gross and my fiance is lactose intolerant.
Today i called to ask if they still carry the lactose free ice cream, not an ice cream that is lactose free, the lactose free ice cream. She said yes and and i said thank you our local one doesnāt carry it anymore. So we arrive and ask if they still have any of the lactose free ice cream because we can only see dairy free. The woman says she is so sorry as she already realized who we are. She was very clearly baked and she didnāt understand food hygiene safety standards, her hair was a mess and not tied back and she had a giant dirty sweater over her uniform. She then convinces my fiance its just as good, this is never the case but she tried it anyways. Mine was made and the ice cream was so warm it was dripping before i even received it.
She threw hers out after 2 licks and i had to throw mine away half way through. The ice cream was soup and melting so fast it was almost a steady stream out the very big hole in the bottom of the cone.
No longer a location worth visiting.
Oh they also changed the gummy bears and they taste like they are part...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was quite excited when I saw this location as I didn't know there was one there. I wasn't greeted by either of the youth staff working there. Once I decided what I wanted and looking very forward to it I stood at the counter waiting for the staff to get up from sitting on the counter texting on his phone. When he relectunatly acknowledged me with a head nod (no words) I asked for my ice cream. Dragging his feet, he put my ingredients on the slab, mixed it in and voila - my Marble Slab ripple on a waffle cone! As soon as it was in my hand it was already melting. The ice cream was soft. After about 3 min I could no longer eat it because it was near liquid. I tossed it, a complete waste. Most Marble Slabs are not like this, what they do at this location is they keep the temperature of the ice cream warmer so that it is softer and easier to mix with the other ingredients you want. Normally it takes quite a bit of effort to mix hard cold ice cream, by keeping the temperature warmer in the coolers they don't have to exert as much effort. Based on the attitude of the staff there it didn't surprise me. In retrospect I should have asked for my money back. Don't go to this Marble Slab, but don't let it keep you away from going to Marble Slab which is normally a delicious, creamy treat (at over $6 for a serving...
